Location: Oregon | Has anyone found an easy way to remove clear coat so that a lure can be refinished? I have tried a propane torch to heat it and then peal it off but it's quite time consuming....hoping to find something a bit easier.
thx.

| I have done well with a heat gun in the past. Heat up small sections at a time. Then peal off the soft clear with an old knife or tool.

| it depends upon the clear coat. do not use it if the baits plastic. i have stripped hundreds of lures. i dedicate a covered pail thats metal and a respirater. the clear gets very goopy and wipes off with a rag. |

Location: Omaha, Nebraska | I tried doing that method with a couple hughes rivers and it didn't work on them, but I have used the method on other lures with less thick clear coat on them and it has worked fairly well. For the Hughes Rivers I ended up using a putty knife and peeling/chipping away at the clear coat by getting under the clear coat at just one spot. |

| Heat, whether propane or heatgun, and keep it rotating while moving the torch from end to end and eventually most of it will start to lift off and you'll be able to peel it. Avoid burning the wood. It won't allow paints and sealers to penetrate the wood as well as if were new. |
