What would your ideal rig be? A single console, dual console or a full walkthrough windshield?

I'm just curious.

I'm staying dual for now. Maybe some day, I'll go full windshield.

But then again, I may sell it all, and get another Harley.

I like the dual sport models. I have a walkthrough here that mostly sits in the yard. Like it fine, but like the room of the sport consoles more. Mostly I don't like messing with the center window, but one REALLY appreciates it when the weather goes bad.

if the boat is big enough so it doesn't interfere with fishing, full windshield = happiness.

you can actually have a conversation with your partner during those long runs up lake.

and when it's cold and raining during April/May and October/November? no better place to be than trolling behind your portable wind-block. i've even been known to toss an anchor out and have a soda and a sandwich on a windy day while the suckers do the work...

Anchor up, put out the suckers and laugh and joke about the wind until the clicker goes off...all behind the full walk-through windshield affectionately dubbed 'the greenhouse'

S.

but then again, I run a tiller boat, so these questions are kind of silly for me to be giving substantive input

Run a single, wish I had a full. Many years downt he road maybe I will be able to afford a different, not necessarily new, boat. With the waters I fish the majority of the time I full would be a lot nicer. Heck, with a full I might even put a bimini on it for when I am playing in BAD stuff. LOL

i loves me some full windshield. currently running a single console. however it depends on the size of the boat. i wouldn't want more than that on this boat, but larger than 18', give me the windshield.

Does anyone make boats with modular consoles? I can imaging it would be really useful to be able to run either single console or duel console in the summer then be able to swap the little windsheilds for a full windshield for the ends of the year.

I did this survey on WalleyeFirst. The results are funny. The walleye guys also had the full windshield models to be the most popular just like everyone on here. However, the walleye guys had dual console tied for full windshield, the musky guys have single console tied for first. I guess it goes to show that having a full windshield is the way to go if your looking to buy a boat and sell it after a few years. You have two different kinds of fishermen, however, the full windshield is favorites to both sides.

how's that? I see it being 23 votes for single, 20 for full....?

I personally like single for "fishability" now for comfort you can't beat a full but I just don't like how much room they take up over a single...
I'll stick with single for now....

I agree with bn but having said that I will never own another boat without a full. I fish mostly big water and the comfort a full offers is priceless.

My favorite boat was my first tiller. I loved the way that fished but I hated getting there in the wind, waves and rain. I ended up having a welding shield in the boat to wear during those situations. Looked like a dork but it was comfortable.

Bn, last night when I posted that, the full windshield was 21, the single console 20, and dual had 5 votes last night. Obviously more people voted. However, for the most part, there about the same, give or take a little either way. Does it matter if single console is leading or not? All I'm saying is, the full windshield draws more popularity among musky and walleye guys. What I'm saying is, if there was a choice for both walleye and musky guys, the vote would go to the full windshield, seeing its the most popular on both sides.

then that full windshield boat of yours should be easy to sell....

i see less full windshields on the water than any of the 3

maybe the full windshield guys are the sallys that don't fish too much....

Crescent Wrench vs Hammer
the tool that's "best" is the one that gives you what YOU need, not what some other guy needs or says you need.

when i lived out by the St. Lawrence/Lake Erie the boats used for muskie fishing looked like spaceships compared to what you see people fishing in around here. when i lived in Duluth and went out on the big lake, it seemed every other boat had a car engine in it instead of an outboard. these boats all tended to have big windshields, too.
when i go to some of the big lakes in Minnesota, the sight of a full windshield isn't unusual at all. heck, there's a Grady White dealership on the south side of Leech.
but then when i go up to northern Wisconsin there's more boats under 17' long than over, and very few sporting full windshields. a lot don't even have consoles.
i wonder why this might be?

match your tool to your job.

He already sold it, over a month ago. Now you are calling another angler here a name, that's two with one boat..way to be.

You have no idea the number of Professional anglers who actually fish for a living who run walk through windshield boats. Might want to watch who you call names......

And I can tell you don't fish the big reservoirs of the west or the Great Lakes much.

I guess am a "sally" that runs a single. LOL Wish in a big way that I had a full. Maybe when I win the lottery. Oh, that's right, I don't gamble. Oh well, maybe some day many years from now.

I don't take things to seriously Brad. LOL I guess since I am pushing 40, want to fish in more comfort and would rather chase silver fish that actually put up a fight, a full windshield would do me much better. Oh, I will start to document more musky caught trolling now too. I love doing stuff that few people do. Fish at night with 9 lines, troll up some piggies where few people have gone before, etc etc etc. Only my wife know how much different stuff I do fishing and don't say a THING to ANYONE about it. I am opening up more and she is confused by that.

Give me a full sheet of glass baby, give this "SALLY" a full sheet of glass. LOL You are still young Brad. When you get old like me you will want something different too. LOL

Ran a tiller love the room, went to the 620 with bubbles nice, but once you ride in a full windshield when she is cool and blowing or raining, you would want no other ride, they are a little hassle opening and shutting the window running spot to spot, but when you run 50 mph in 3 footer in November it nice. Know I just wear the darthvader mask.
