I'm sure this is common knowledge by most. I learned the hard way by loosing my fall piggy a few weeks ago and a few others in between. Turn off the clicker when fighting a fish because the drag system is extremely jerky when releasing line. Muskies can shake the hooks out much easier when they turn by boat with a head shake compared to the normal smooth line release.

I don't know what kind of reel you were using but I use Abu 7000's on my salmon rods and rarely turn the clicker off when fighting a fish and don't notice any difference in the drag. I also believe that a King Salmon will fight harder than a musky.

Abu and Caiman reels. It seems to strip out normal, but take the time and have someone pull out drag. Try it with clicker on and then off and you might see a big differance like I did. Maybe my reels suck?

Maybe they don't suck so much as the drag is just touchy? :D
