I'm in the market for purchasing one of these high end units and was wondering if anyone had knowledge of the differences in the HD detail from one year to the next that is built in? Is it noticeable? Is there any difference at all? Is what's loaded on these units quality? Or, are you better off just going strictly with the chips and buying the less expensive non HD models of these same units? I'm asking because a substantial savings can be had on the one year old units vs. the newer ones. Thanks

The big difference between the 111 and 113 is the addition of a port that will accept direct input from underwater cameras and (I believe) satelite radio (for weather/radar). I don't think the capacity is there yet to overlay satelite info on chart data (like the high end Garmins or Raymarines), but I've been told that they are working on it. I don't know the ins and outs of the units, but we do have both at work and the difference is minimal. I'd buy the 111 if the savings were 'substantial'.

HD stands for Hard Drive, not High Definition.

I'm aware of the meaning of HD. I was referring to the detail of the mapping info. on the hard drive. Chips are updated all the time and I was unclear if the hard drive ifo was upgraded all the time as well. Sorry if the question mislead anyone.

If you can get the non HD for a much better price go that route. I have the 111HD and the maps are not very good and I cannot save any more or update them(it seems). I just use the chips, so the 110 would have worked just the same for me.

Ok, I checked a little, and the difference between the 111 and 113 is in the video ready capasity, the hard drive is bigger (20 Gigs in the 111; 30 in the 113), and a higher color resolution on the 113. Up to you to decide if its worth it, but the differences are nominal between the two in our work boat.
