I have my new Wabulls ( THANKS BALDY!!!) and my new DC9 (THANKS, KEITH!) , my new Shack Attack Suzi Sucker, (THANKS ANDY!)and my new Okuma Induron 250 (THANKS MARK!) and am on my way up this afternoon. If I don't catch a fish it won't be because I don't have the right stuff in the way of Gear. About 15 met for breakfast this morning in Presque Isle, with many more arriving tonight and tomorrow.

Tuffy Boats, Rhinelander Toyota, and Toyota Trucks will be bringing you the daily fishing reports and imagery from Presque Isle. Okuma and Shack Attack are our 2007 Presque Isle Outing event sponsors. Thanks to all our promotional partners for supporting our outings and providing cool prizes.

Watch this thread for daily reports on the fishing, the morning and evening get-togethers, and more from Skyview Lodge.

If you are in the area and don't stop in, you will be missing a very good time. See everyone there!

Clear skies and cool temperatures brought a tough bite in Presque Isle today. Howie Meyer said the fish are very scattered, with no real pattern developed yet. That, hopefully, will change tomorrow with the cloudy skies and chance of rain.

Temperatures look pretty good for the end of October; into the low 50's and high 40's the rest of the weekend.

Joel, lambeau, and Sorno have scored so far.

Watch for updates tomorrow evening!

Looking good, guys. Glad Sorno's off to a good start, afterall, he did travel a fair distance.

That bar scene seems vaguely familiar.

Kevin

Played golf with my daughter today. She did pretty darn well for a ten year old. She didn't catch any muskies, though.

Quite a few of the guys on their way have stopped by Rollie & Helen's on their way to PI. Been fun talking with a bunch of the guys and putting some faces together with "screen names". Maybe next year I'll arrange to have the weekend off and join you. If Sorno gets some kind of award for coming the longest distance can I qualify for coming the shortest distance? Have fun guys and good luck to all.

Good to see fishingfool smiling. I think the last time I saw his mug was at the Cass :ake outing, and he wasn't smiling then.

Day two dawned foggy and cold, with no wind until late afternoon. the bite was tough, but several muskies hit the net. Temps were mainly in the 40's with a while in the sun a bit warmer. Merv and I blanked after I lost a nice Weagle Muskie. A couple boats Doubled up, with pointer Pride and Merckid putting a 'double' in the boat.

Skyview fed (overfed!) us and treated us like royalty again this evening.

As soon as I can get a file to Zach, you have a video treat coming...very cool clip.

Everyone is having a blast!!

Day three promised to be tough fishing from the start with 25 MPH winds and clear skies following a cold front. Breakfast at Skyview was outstanding, and within a few minutes of 8 AM one way or the other most of the MuskieFIRST 2007 Presque Isle Outing anglers were on the water.

There were many reports of action on suckers, with a couple fish boated including Gander Mtn Guide's double and Sorno's 41.5, his personal best WI muskie. Merv and I got a 34ish on a sucker early, and I popped a 44.25 on a Creature just before dark.

If you missed this one, you missed a VERY good time. The hospitality was incredible in Presque Isle and at Skyview, the fish were cooperative with 19 caught over Thursday afternoon to tonight, and the company was GREAT!

Mike Conklyn took a 42 just a bit before Pointer prides identical fish to take home big fish honors.

Rick Lax of Lax Taxidermy presented a replica of Sorno's state record Utah Hybrid Muskie Release to Kent after the awards, much to Sorno's extreme surprise. That was a fine thing to do for Sorno, guys, ands a beautiful replica!

Watch for a wrap up including a listing of the top ten fish caught and video of the event Monday morning!

Thanks to ALL our sponsors, and to everyone attending.

Thanks also to Slamr and lambeau, without whom this outing would not have happened. great work, gentlemen.

Sounds like there were a few more fish caught today, the 'last day' unofficial end of the 2007 Presque Isle Outing. Slamr, Merv, and I hit a small clear lake in Oneida for a few hours, saw 2, lost one of them. GREAT weekend!

Sorry to here about your hand Bob! Wiser's in the other hand, and lots of it!

I re-aggrivated the pinched nerve today/ yesterday, you pick. It was either that I was throwing the big stuff yesterday, or that I have a bad habit of leaning on the armrest in the Jeep during long road trips. I turn my head, my left arm goes numb. Or, just maybe it may be my hissy-fit when that monster got away from Lori yesterday. I thought she owned that fish. That pig had other ideas.

Thanx to Rusty (enjoyed sharing the boat with you once again), Bob, Bruce (you were very awesome to share the boat with as well, you rock!), Smokin Joe (you rock, brother, and not just because you laugh at everything I say), Rick Lax (thanx for being so good to me and the shop!), Jeff, Paul, One of my two best friend's (K-Bob), The PIG that shook off as I tried to net Lori's fish (you haunt me), Steve, Slamr, Lambeau(without you guys, I would never have met so many great folks), Saint, Norm, Al (great to share a day with you on the boat! I knew you, but not as well, until we were on the water with you brother!), Adam (your hospitality is unmatched by you and your staff, as well as your knowledge of area lakes), Howie (thanx for treating me so good), ShaneW (you forgot your maple), BigMo (Never put it up on plane on that lake, brother), everyone else that we shot the breeze with, and last but certainly not least, Cleo, and my AWESOME Musky Goddess, Lolleitta for making this weekend the BEST trip I have ever been on, PERIOD!

We had a blast, and I'm thinking next year, we are making week of it. This was our only vacation together this year.

I had a great time this weekend. Fish weren't very kind to me the first three days with only a 25" or so Thursday and a small follow and a sucker hit Saturday. Things turned around for my boat on Sunday. Esoxaddict and I tried a new lake. I got a fat 41" that hammered a Suzy Sucker boatside from out of nowhere. EA got a tiny pike and lost an upper 30" musky on a sucker. We also each had a sucker pickup but it dropped it before we could get to the rod.

What an awesome weekend! I'm glad I donated so much plasma to help pay for the costs of my trip!

First off, the BIG THANK YOU'S:
Adam and everyone at skyview, even though you gave away our room an hour before we got there, everything worked out great and Tim and I had a great time. We appreciate all your hard work and spectacular service keeping all us musky guys happy!

Slamr, Lambeau and Steve, I cant thank you guys enough for everything you guys do running this site and all the outings, there is so much information available on this site and the outings are an absolute blast! Thanks for everything you guys do!

Howie, Thanks for the tips on where to fish on Saturday, we had some really exciting action watching fish chase around suckers, that was one of the coolest things I've seen musky fishing. Thanks for being so open to sharing your knowledge!

Made some great memories this weekend! I got my first sucker fish with Tim on Friday evening after fishing hard all day without so much as a sniff at our baits. Then to double up in a matter of minutes was nuts. The evenings at the bar with Norm and Saint and everyone else was awesome, I dont think I've laughed that hard in a long, long time! I'll be laughing about some of the stuff for a long time to come!

I'm still trying to fill in details of Saturday evening at the bar....so if anyone has any great stories about me I'd love to hear them! I'm still hurting a bit tonight, but not as bad as this morning, those at the bar for breakfast can attest to my state of mind this morning! I'm looking forward to next year already!!

The 2007 Presque isle Outing was a complete success, and even more importantly, everyone seemed to have a really good time. There were a total of 22 fish caught including Sunday despite FAC conditions on Friday and a cold front and big winds Saturday, gracing us with bluebird skies after a totally fogged in morning.

All in all we dodged a bullet anyway with temps during the last week of October in the 50's for highs. It's been an incredible fall in the Northwoods to date!

Mike Conklyn took honors for the largest fish in competition for the Okuma Induron reel and a trip with North Star Guide service, at 42".

Mike Bolinski (Pointerpride) tied with a later ijn the day 42", so he took second and an Okuma trolling reel.

Kent Sorenson (all the way from the West!) took third with an anchored-up and sitting 41.5 sucker bite Muskie, his personal best Wisconsin fish for a Perka Heavy from Beav.

Merckid took third with a 41, which was a DOUBLE with Mike's (Pointerpride's) fish for a Perka. I know he took another 41 yesterday, too.

Rich Whiteside (all the way from the East!) took 6th with a 38" for a Perka. He and Gary ALWAYS catch fish at our outings. He also took home a Perka.

John Heibler took a 38 later in the weekend, number 1 of a double. Good to see you sir! he also took home a Perka.

Judy Achtor showed how it's done catching a 37.5 for 7th and a Perka.

Gary Richard took a 37 for a Perka. I swear, those two could catch a fish in the Wal Mart parking lot...

Shack Attack donated a ton of lures we distributed early to allow everyone to fish 'em for at least a day, which paid off with at least one fish for the event. Thanks, Andy!

Okuma donated shirts, hats, visors, and two reels. Great prizes, and thanks to Okuma for the sponsorship.

Zalt/Zam North America donated a BIG box of baits, which we got into the angler's hands in time to get 'em wet Sunday. Thanks to Zalt/Zam and Al for the bait donations!!

Our perennial friend Todd Minor also donated some of his top producing lures; thanks Todd!!

Tuffy Boats and Rhinelander Toyota sponsored the coverage, thanks to them both.

Without the donations everyone's tackle box would be a bit lighter, THANKS to our sponsors.

I had a blast, catching a couple fish and fishing water I have never been on. I'll be back to Van Vliet, for sure. Saw a couple nice fish, got a 'pin' on a sucker and got a 44.25 old fart male to eat a creature, too. California Muskie, that spinning rod whipped that fish in short order. Thanks again, sir.

It was good to see everyone, and REALLY nice to have Skyview as our location again. Those folks know hospitality, and we can't thank Adam and Howie, the staff at Skyview, and the folks in Presque Isle enough for the hospitality.

Here's the image gallery for the event. if you have images you would like me to add, just send them to me at [email protected]. Edit them down to 640X480 if at all possible. if not, I'll get that done for you.

Thanks again to everyone attending!

I definitely had a great time up there. Thanks for jumping in the boat Bob. Too bad you pulled a "John Gillespie" on that fish and she busted ya up. We had some great action, put some fish in the boat and came back almost in one piece. lol

I wish I could have hooked up with the rest of you after fishing each night, but tough to do when you have a 3 week old at the house. Had a great time Thursday night though.

Sorno, great fishing with you and Lambeau again. Good work on the fish, and Lambeau, I just looked back at your email with the forecast from earlier in the week, and it was WRONG. LOL It rained that day. ha ha.

Steve,

I just reviewed the slide show and you should be complimented on a excellent job with the camera. The only thing I missed by not being there was not being there. Maybe next year.

As bad as that fish was in his eating, it's easy to see why he's so skinny.

Netman,
I have to give credit to the others who shot a number of the images; we have a pretty accomplished group of Muskie photographers here!

Well, another outing is in the books and boy was it a good one. Big thanks go out to Adam and his staff at Skyview for putting up with us for the week. Thanks to Andrew and Mike for putting the outing together. Lets keep this one around. Finally, a thanks to Okuma, Shack Attack, Beav and Al for the great give-aways.

All around had a great weekend. The weather cooperated, the fishing was okay, the food was excellent, and the bar time was a blast.

Always glad to have the opportunity to fish with my dad, time that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. The 25 minutes of watching that fish play with my sucker was great, just glad that I could make him bite. I worked hard for that one. I agree, that fish was one skinny S.O.B, but I think he lost 15 lbs just chasing the sucker around LOL.

Had a blast and will be back next year for sure.

Mike

Judy was pushing hard to get out on the water Friday morning, while Gene was shooting the breeze with some of the other anglers...she literally dragged him out into the cold saying " Come ON, I need to get out there fishing!!" Judy is still recovering from a skiing accident last winter, but that didn't slow her down.

Gene, you are a very lucky man.

Where do I start? Even before the big surprise, this was a great outing. I got my first fish 20 minutes into the trip and things only kept getting better. Lambeau and I fished a couple of lakes w/ Tuffy1 and Sled as a warm-up. We had plenty of action and a couple of fish in the boat before the official start of the Outing.
It was sure fun seeing some of the participants again, and meeting even more for the first time (yeah, you too Beav!). The grasshoppers were cheap (and I quote, "Eight times four is twenty-four."; yes Norm, you just heard that), and the Brandy Alexander was scouted out and found to be quite acceptable...
The fishing was great, the time spent with friends was better. And speaking of friends, mine went over the top by presenting me with that fabulous replica. Those of you who were there seemed to enjoy my state of shock when I finally realized what was going on. It is a moment I will remember and cherish for all of my days. And a note particularly to my new friend and great artist, Rick Lax, who apparently was somewhat anxious about getting it 'right' - you nailed it buddy!
Of course, the sponsors and the hard work of Slamr and lambeau make opportunities like this possible, so many thanks to you as well.
Back to Utah tomorrow AM, it's been a full week.

Sorno, you should carry the repro through security and on to the plane. I'd love to see you striding through the airport with that baby in your arms. Best carry on ever. Just be careful after you land, because items in the overhead storage may shift during the flight.

Awesome pics Mike, very cool. I think the fish was actually going though a thought process, he obviously needed to eat, but he was not quite sure about the sucker with the hook sweater. Did he finally take it on his own? Sorry I missed you guys.

Team Rumbleknott had a blast for sure !! Thanks to Andrew , Mike and Steve for hooking it up AGAIN !!!! Thanks to Skyview and their staff for putting up with all of us , and thanks to all the sponsors who contributed as well !!! Fishing was great , it's the fisherman who couldn't pull the trigger to make the fishing GREAT !!! We had our shots at mutiple big fish but nothing to show for it , but that's part of the game !!! We had a shot at 1 fish that was pushing ( if not better ) than 50" on sunday and another that was mid to upper 40's on sunday , all we got was another ( yes another ) lost bait and a lost cell phone to show for it . It would have been nice to put one of those in the net , but it sure was nice to see ( another ) fish of that caliber !!! Anybody who missed this outing truly did miss out , what a blast !!! There are some real pigs up there and we were able to find them ( thanks Slamr ) we just couldn't manage to put one in the net ... but being a die hard Cubs fan I'll leave it like this .... " There's always next year !! " It was good seeing everyone again and I look forward to doing all over !!!

I had a great time in P.I. Big thanks to Lambeau, Steve, Adam and Staff, and Slamr........I met so many GREAT people....

Highlights of the trip........catching my first tiger muskie, Sorno's face expression when he saw his surprise replica was PRICELESS(congrats again Sorno), the food and drinks at the Skyview, the weather was GREAT, meeting a bunch of great people, Norm telling the story about the PLUNGE, Seeing Pointer on Sunday morning with a MASSIVE HANGOVER(been there buddy, I know how you felt), the nightcaps(weiser) with Nightmare, Lolleita, Cleo, Rick, Shane, Bob, Rusty, Jeff, K-Bob, and Paul(by the way Bob, don't take any shortcuts on your way back home), spending time in the boat with Rick Lax(Ricky, THANKS again, your the best bro-in-law a guy could ever ask for)

Lowlights of the trip.......Breaking a St. Croix Legend Tournament rod on a snag(ouch), Rick drivng the 620 on top of a stump with the 225 Yami completely out of the water( we made it off with no damage, LUCKILY.

Can't wait till next year.........................

Seeing Pointer on Sunday morning with a MASSIVE HANGOVER

Yeah I was hurtin a bit, although I've been much worse. I think most of it was just wanting to be back in bed as I was rudly awaken by TJ and Spencer saying they were going to dump cold lake water and suckers on me! I think the worst part about it was not being able to enjoy the breakfast sandwiches....I love breakfast sandwiches and it took me about 3 hours to finish mine!

Hi guys- Got home yesterday afternoon. Another great MF Outing. Thanks Lambeau & Slamr. Slamr all the rat comments were really jealousy. However, beware the creeping/receeding hairline. One day it may be a que ball like so many of us old fart's.

Rob & Lori- Thanks for the time on the water. Maybe next time we can get a full day & I can see Lori out fish the Nightmare. Somehow, I wound up with the Presque Isle traveling trophy. I'll be sure to award it to some deserving muskie fisherman next year.

FishingFool- (Paul). Great to see you again and share information. We definitely have to share a boat. I'm so happy your body is back into the fishing mode. That was good news. When is your muskie lure garage sale????????

Landy- as always a real pleasure to talk & share lakes. Hope you stuck some pigs on Sunday.

Tuffy1 (Joel) very nice chatting and seeing you again. Hope you got some sleep! Enjoy the little one, they grow up way to fast!

k-bob (Krishna) - Very nice to see you again. Hope I didn't keep you awake snoring.

Jim & Mike (ghoti & o44hmusky) - always a pleasure to see you. Awsome sucker fish story, can't wait to see the video, I need high speed connection ;-(

Rich W. & Gary R. - Rich very nice to see you again. Richard nice to meet you. Very glad to see you both stuck fish. Kinda makes "Escanaba by moonlight" worth it!!!!!

Lunkerhunter & MuskyWomen (Gene & Judy) - As always a real pleasure. Gene I don't see how an old fart like you winds up with a girlfriend who sticks fish like that! But you really do make a nice team. Judy way to go- someday he may get edjikated on how to stick them;-)

slimm & Dad - Again a real pleasure to see you guy's. Hope the aches and pains are less next year. The "I got urges" was way to funny!

nwild & Saint1 (Norm & Jason) - You guy's are animal's. Saint definitely has an unusal way to check the sucker! Hope the new key fob works!

Shane W. - What a beautiful row trolling boat- hope she got slimed in the Yooper.

Sorno - (Kent Sorensen) - That Utah tiger is a fish of a lifetime. Congratulations! I was very happy to see that award.

Rick Lax- What a class act. Very nice to meet you in person. Have been reading nothing but good things over the years. I know where I'm going if I want a repo.

Rusty, Bob & Bruce (The Three Amigos): Great to see you again. Bruce- Once again very good to spend the day with you on Friday. Maybe next year will be the magic bite. You always have a spot on the back deck.

PP102 (Mike Bolinski) Merckid (TJ DeVoe) - Spencer Berman: - Hey guys great to meet you. Nice to see some youngsters who are good sticks and really focused (well maybe not Mike) I don't think his focus was that great Sunday AM- He is definitely the party animal of the group. Now focus on school, I know you three are going to make some great contributions to the fisheries biology world.

Spencer- What can I say? Thanks for spending two (2) days in a boat with me. I had a great time.

For those who don't know who Spencer Berman (The Kid) is. I'm sure you will in the future. I predict his name is destined to be well known in the musky fishing community. Check this thread out. ->

Trip synopsis:

Tuesday- Wanted to launch on PI but winds were pushing to hard into the dock/launch area. Spent the day on Clear exploring with my new Humminbird 997SI. No fish, but liked what I was seeing on the screen.

Wednsday - Decided to give PI another try. Launched OK- went exploring. Found some really sweet spot's = saw a walleye guy(Scott Somers-Milw. WI) whom I met at PI Pub on Tuesday night. He was fishing a mid-lake hump. chatted a while & continued to map the lake with the SI (side imaging). Fished the north end reed edges- didn't see a thing. went south around Fireman's Point. etc. & over to "Tiger Bar" (If you don't know this one you have to ask Howie. ). The SI showed lot's of fish on it- so I cruised out to where Scott was & told him he should cjeck it out- saw them later- they popped a 27" walleye in first 5 minutes and had a large fish break them off about 10 minutes later- 40 FOW (probably a muskie). Winds were picking up pretty good so decided to call it a day- wind actually slammed my trolling motor into the dock, breaking the trolling motor mount. Crap! Had spare at home of course, so drove home that evening (4hrs) then drove back up Thusday morning to meet Rob & Lori at 1:00PM.

Thursday Afternoon: Went to Crab with Rob & Lori, what a pretty lake, also very dangerous lake (right BigMo). There is no way I would ever put my boat on plane in that lake!. We had a couple of nervous suckers a couple of times but no fish.

Friday: Fish with Bruce B. (one of the Three Amigo's from Chicago) in my boat.
We launch in the fog on PI. Move around a bit looking for fish- go over to Finigan's Bar. drift & cast a bit on top of the bar - no takers. Move over to "Tiger Bar" & park- flat calm. Drop the suckers down to about 40' in 43FOW. Start casting up towards the hump- ~ 12:00 (actual right on the money according to Bruce's watch. The clicker on my Calcutta is going - line is going out to deeper water so this is no bottom snag- it's still dead calm. Grab the rod & slam the hooks home- nothing no sucker-no fish. Sh1t! it must have grabbed the back half of the sucker. Fished a couple of more sweet spot's but no action. Boat is loading up like crazy.

Saturday: Fished w/Spencer in my boat. Changed plug's, Put fresh regular gas and both fuel treatment and octane booster in the boat- it was loading up after I put a batch of premium in it at the local gas facility yesterday AM. We went to Clear because everyone was seeing fish in weeds and I knew where there were good weeds. Launched- Took the boat out to blow some of the bad gas out of the lines & carbs. Pulled back into the launch bay (south side) There was a boat on the NE corner of the launch bay (turned out to be Landy). We rigged the suckers shallow and started casting me- a Sumway Giant Flasher and Spencer a 2lb'r dawg. He goes - I see we think alike, "big bait-big fish", yup. After about 20-30 minutes of the weeds, Spencer says" You can't stand this can you? me- nope!" We pack the suckers into the livewell and head out for some deep water edge structure. Spencer raised 2 fish on the first spot (~ 44), and had another fish rip the tail off of his 2 lb'r dawg. Yeah he really throws 2 lb'r dawg's. Better his young shoulders than mine. We spent most of the day on this 100 yd section/spot, the SI was showing lots of bait & fish in 20-30FOW. ~ 3:30 decided to cruise out to the mid-lake humps. passed Landy & crew. We marked the biggest fish I've ever seen on the SI ~ 50' from Landy's boat. I holler "Landy- big fish right there and point to the spot. We continue on to the humps- we mark a nice fish on the leeward side of one. I turn the boat so we are on the upwind side & let it drift across the spot with the mark- Spencer is still throwing the 2lb'r even minus the tail tip. Suddenly he says "fish about a 46", and is on his knees deep figure 8'ing the fish. I reach over and hit the "mark' button on the SI. By this late in the day my trolling motor batteries are shot from battling the wind all day in the other spot. I can't get back onto the spot, so I crank up the 150 & take us back to the other side of the spot, we drift over fast & get a couple of casts on her. do this a couple of times. Finally screw this, were going to anchor on her. Motor over to the windward side & drop the anchor let out about 100' of line & were on top of the spot.

Drop the suckers down to ~18' in 23 FOW. We start casting suddenly my sucker makes a streak for the surface and actually jumps out of the water. We're both encourged by that. About 2 cast's later I see something deep under my lure- at least 12-15 feet down. But, it's definitely a fish no clue as to size. This trip I was "field testing" a new deep water muskie bait (soft plastic). I'm working it with 3' pulls. I feel weight- I go "Ohhh" and do a side sweep hook set. Nothing! I think maybe it hit the tail etc. I do a quick check of the back half for marks - none. It's coming up on 5:00PM- decide to get back to Skyview for the festivities.

Sunday: Fish with Howie and Spencer. Another good day in the boat with Howie- lot's of laughs. It was great listening to Howie & Spencer discuss muskies & muskie fishing. Spencer learned a few knew trick's and I think Howie got to meet an up and coming new muskie stick. There is about a 45 year age difference, But you would have a hard time telling it. Lot's of stories and lot's of laugh's. I give Howie my new deep water lure & tell him about the previous day's adventure on the hump. He takes a much closer look & finds at least 3 major fang cut's one on the belly and two more up by the dorsal fin. It actually got bit by Spencer's ~ 46' fish, but no hooks. (more work to do on rigging it for muskies) . No fish this year, but still a great time in the boat w/ Howie & Spencer.

Howie- As always great to see you again and spend another day in your boat. Mark me down for next year. Any fish on that PI Deep Water lure yet?

Adam: Thank you for the terrific hospitality! Please pass my sincere thanks to all of your staff. They are firstclass!

If I missed you in this long rant, I appologize. Hope to see you next year- I'm already making my reservation's. Also hope to see you at the Milw. Muskie Show or the Madison Fishing Expo. Maybe you can get a look at the new PI deep water muskie lure- still working on a name for it.

Have fun!

Al

I guess now is not the time to mention this, but better late than never, right?

Somebody lost a bearing buddy at the launch on Van Vliet. Might want to check your trailers.
