Location: Lake Tomahawk, Musky Central, USA | In northern wisconsin, lets say...when lake temps are 46-50 degrees? I keep gettin #*#* for throwing them but today I got a FAT 45" fish on a local lake...high pressure...etc. What do you think? Was it one of those lucky flukes or is a bait a bait? I've got a lot of experimenting left I think. I've been fishing musky since I was 5, thanks to my dad...but I've never really thrown surface baits due to what everyone else said...and what stats show. What ya think guys? This was in the middle of the day too, I know for a fact they own at night..haha

There are not hard rules in muskie fishing. |

Location: Contrarian Island | i recall a day in mid november a couple seasons ago after pounding a lake with everything i could think of i finally gave a Lee Lures Top h20 a shot and had something like 5 or 6 fish up and hit the thing in 1.5 hours on a shallow bar with dead/old weeds....none got hooked but water temps were probably 45 at the time, maybe less...always remember they are muskies and will eat anything at anytime they feel like it...

Location: north central wisconsin | I think you answered your own question. It is still under-utilized, but growing in popularity. Sure seems to account for at least a few fun days when water is on the slow roll from 60 down to mid to high 40's(didn't have that here last year). I admit I honestly put them away when I see 45 degree temps unless a nice day, but have been pushing the envelope more and more each year, to a fault according to my friends...
Can you tell us what type of day you were fishing Andy, conditions? Structure? Pic of the fish? Great stuff!!!!

Location: Contrarian Island | for reference reefer, the day i had good action was a cold, cloudy, blustery North winds type fall day...for whatever reason the only thing I could get them jazzed up over was the top h20....
I need to remember that more ofen and not put all the topwaters away in the fall....

Location: Pewaukee, WI | Tell you what Andy, my son caught a 49 1/2" Musky on a Top Walker in Nov. and a friend caught a 50" Musky on a Z180 in Dec. while fishing for Northern Pike. Sure made a believer out of me! |

Location: Lake Tomahawk, Musky Central, USA | Reef Hawk, this is how it went down.
I knew I'd be criticized. We were sucker fishing. Being the youngin in the boat, I could cast all day because I love it. 2 suckers on slips and 1 over the side. We hit the crick between the 2 small lakes an hour into our drift (5-10mph winds). I saw a nice tree and was like, "well, I guess since I only brought 6 different baits I will try to get a bass or something off this tree (yeah right I had a feeling). I casted over the tree that was an inch below the surface. I was waiting for "the Cpt" (after i hooked a tree on shore 5 minutes ago) to say "you better not snag that". I just had a feeling, a hunch. I've musky fished since I could talk! plup plup plup plup BANG KERPLUSH..."get the ****ing net I'm gettin this one in the boat" (seeing as we lost 3 upper 40's fish on the lake next-door" We took 2 polaroids. They will be in the Lakeland Times in 2 weeks. The Digitals will be back at "its computer" on tuesday of next week when my man Leo get's back to Pewaukee. I'll have the pics up...
ok after all of that.....
1 cloud in the sky
42 degrees
3pm
48 degree water temps (compared to the sister lake across the road at 46.5)
Greener water
baby loon top-raider (i know, i know)
slower than normal retrieve
hope that helps.
All I've learned from this is that it could happen anywhere. |

Location: Muskegon Michigan | Late November last year, water temps 39 small lake 33 inch musky in 3 feet of water on a small weed clump. I tossed a weagle using a slow swoosh and the musky kind of slurped it twice. The retrieve had to be slow very slow. Kingfisher

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Only fish I had hit Friday was over deeper water on a Weagle. Flat couldn't keep up with her, slack line and a lost fish. Made up for it Saturday with a 44.25 on a Creature, so fish 'em top to bottom. |

Location: Lake Tomahawk, Musky Central, USA | Between TC, Boeing Bob, the Point Boys and us..we were all sucker fishin 1 lake, we probably boated 15 muskies and lost just as many. 3 broke the line :/. 47.5 the biggest. My fish was the only fish caught on artificial...on the surface lol...pics are in my album. Most of the other pics are at Captain Hooks. What a helluva couple weeks we had, and it hasn't even started yet!

| Hi,
I would not have believed this if I had not seen this myself. Last October in Canada with water tempretures at 43 degrees I was in the boat when my partner threw on a Viper and caught a very nice 47" fish in less than 4 feet of water. My jaw dropped right on the deck.

Location: north central wisconsin | Thanks for the breakdown Andy. Very similar to past years when the cool down was slow(unlike last year). Really more like late sept temps lately than late oct/early nov. Things will be a changin' quick here, but what a great run for fall topwater this year!! By the way, I think I know your dad. I think he mounted a fish for me last year. Take care! |

| You might want to check your line guides Andy. If it's decent line that sure doesn't seem like typical line failure. |
