I am kind of sorta, but not really until next spring, in the used boat market. I came across an ad for a 2001 Ranger 617 DVS. I am not extremely familiar with the Ranger families and have never heard of the 617. I am assuming that the 617 is part of the 618,619,620, and 621 family. Is this assumption correct? If anyone can provide any information on this model, that would be great. This website is a great place to go for advice and opinions. The information that was provided in the thread about the Ranger 618 was very useful. I have fished out of my buddies 618 up on LOTW and found it to be very comfortable for two people and pretty much ideal for one person.

Rocket, I have actually fished out of one of these one time and had a chance to run around in one this summer working for a marina. Yes, the 617 is basically your mini version of the 619,620, and 621. They discontinued this model because it did not sell good at all from the guys at Heckel's Marina. They are a Ranger dealer so I figured they knew what they were talking about. But honestly, I really did like the layout and overall boat. I think it's way better than a 618 personally but that is me. It's deeper and has a better layout if you ask me. Plus, it was rated for a 150, so that boat could definitely move. I would personally say, this boat you could fish three out of, however, I personally would stick with two in this rig. It gets a little tight if your fishing muskies and three in the boat. Hope this helps. Take a look at the Tuffy 1760, you won't be disappointed!

Thanks for your response. I have recently talked with a guy who owns one and he is really happy with his. The only complaint he has is the rod locker. Other than that he says the boat suits him just fine. He says it also does well in big water.

Thanks again,

I absolutely love my 2004 617 DVS(or should I say my wife's, she won it at the Wi Musky Clubs Alliance tourney as a door prize), like said in the earlier post the only thing that I would change is the rod locker not being long enough. The 617 works perfect for us a I pull it behind my 24' Jayco 5th wheel camper, and we just make the 65' maximum length for Michigan roads..Randy
