Ok all; I compiled the top list of lakes as chosen here and on Musky Hunter. There could be some overlap if guys voted both places but I think this list is pretty representative of what anglers feel are the best INLAND waters for a 50” WI fish. The lakes are listed in alphabetical order, after this poll has run for awhile I will post the compiled votes from the first poll but the listed lakes ranged from 19 to 9 votes. A lot of good waters where left off this list, but I had to draw the line someplace. So I cut the list where it dropped from 9 to 6 votes, which dropped out Pelican at 6 votes and a number of other lakes with 4 votes. So please now vote for your one best choice to catch a WI 50” fish. Here’s the scenario under which you are fishing. Image you will be paid $100,000 if you can catch a 50” fish in one weeks time. You can hire a guide who knows the water and you can pick the time of year based on the guides recommendation. I know this is unrealistic, but aesthetics don’t matter, all that matters is you have one week to put a 50” fish in the boat. If you do it you get paid. From what you know of the above list which, water gives you the best opportunity. No Lake X or Green Bay here, you have to choose from one of the above Wisconsin Trophy Musky Waters. This may seem redundant, but now that choice is limited any you can only pick your number one, it should be interesting. Thanks. Nail A Pig! Mike One more poll to come after I give this one a week or so to run.

I'll go with the Wisconsin River. Mainly for the fact of water area. Even though the river is not as wide as most lakes, it has legnth. Causing more surface and shoreline area. Also, the "fish tank" theory comes into play. As you know, if you take a fish that grows large and put a small one in a fish tank. It will only grow as big as it needs to survive. Lakes are kind of like a fish tank. Some have tributary streams and rivers, but not large enough to susuain high fish numbers. The Wisconsin River's area is litteraly from Lac Veiux Dessert, to where it enters the Mississippi. Then you could even go into the mississippi. Now this is relying on the fact that the fish does not die going over the dams. Also, a fish can't exatly go "up" a dam either. But, if a fish that lives in the river stretch just south of Dessert becomes crowded. It can start moving further south, untill it reaches desirable habitat. A lake fish cannot exactly do this. They can't sprout legs and move to a less populated lake. (wouldn't that be kinda cool though.) Now, as for which stretch of the river you should fish? That reallly comes down to personal prefrence. I would fish Dubay, only because I know the area and I know that it coughs up a couple 50 inchers a year. Any thoughts??

Mike,
Just a point, one hads to consider demographics and other non direct data when compiling information for a survey. it may be that experience alone is the driving factor for more votes, as in " I fish there, and know there are 50' fish there, that's my suggestion."

Can't vote here, my choices are not on the list.

I understand that Steve, and the first poll proves that lots of lakes with 1 or 2 votes showing that people are more apt to choose waters they know the best. That's why I did this poll, limited it to specific lakes. People will still be likely to choose the water they know the best. I have fished 4 of the 8 and choose a lake I have never fished based on stories and pictures I am seeing.

What I am trying to do is see how my interpretation of data(those stories and pictures) compares with others as far as getting a feel for where most of the 50" fish are coming from in WI. Not counting Green Bay and Lake Xs. I have to say so far I am surprised with the top two vote getters, though not greatly.

So Steve even though your first choice isn't up there based on what you know about the pulse of Wisconsin Musky fishing, please vote.
