I just switched my 5600 c4 reels to c5's. What a difference really smoothed things out. Ordered the c5 worm gear with ball earing on it and level wind shroud all for about $15 from abu garcia and cleaned all the bearings and relubed. WOW what a difference. Found out about this conversion on one of the bass sites. Abu says that they should have the parts to convert my 6500tcm reels in about a month (can't wait). oh yeah if youve got a c3 you can make it a c5 by ordering the small bearing for the other side of the worm gear, adding 2 more bearings should really smooth one of those things out. [] Anyone else hot rod thier reels?

Yeti - I've been interested to try "super tuning" reels after reading an article about long distance surf casters. These guys were casting like 200-300 yards with c3's and c4's. The link above was mentioned as a source of the gears, ceramic bearings and lubricants. I'm not planning on sending a suick into orbit, but I like the idea of really tuned reels. Your trick is a good one, too.
