Location: New Brighton, MN | Just wondering - water temps here are still around 67-69, but around 60, I believe most of you switch to dragging suckers. How many people just drag one off the back of the boat, while casting off the front? Or, do you cast at all when the temps drop under 60? 55? Personally, I don't have the patience to drop, drag and wait....
just gotta cast. |

| It looks like you are in MN. You dont get a choice...you can cast OR drag a sucker. you dont get to do both. Only one line here |

Location: New Brighton, MN | Sorry for not mentioning it, but I primarily fish in WI. I don't have a whole lot of experience with suckers... I mostly troll in the fall, but am looking to switch, as it seems that most people in my area (Polk co.) use suckers when water temps drop under 60 exclusively.

| Too funny Bruce !!! I agree with you for sure !!! I do both , when I say both I mean both !!!! Sometimes it's nice to just sit on your a$$ and soak suckers !!! Most of the time we'll cast and drag'em . |

Location: Brookfield | There is no way I can sit and wait for a sucker to get eaten without casting. Even in November, I cast till my hands cant stand another minute then take a short break and tend to the suckers. In other words always both.

I had some clients that wanted to learn how to rig and fish suckers on Saturday so we did. H2O temps were around 70. They got a 43 on a sucker and had one other fish that was smaller that we tried to baby into the net so we didn't loose our only sucker left. They'll eat them now as long as you keep them alive in the livewell.
The only reason I tend not to drag them in warmer water is that I'm usually fishing shallower and don't feel like messing with suckers in the weeds when we could be casting to these fish. Don't be afraid to drag one high up though over those weeds. |

| i start draggin meat in northern WI anytime mid september on when water temps are in the low 60's and below....
had many days where they only wanted the meat including a 6 fish day last fall fishing solo...all on suckers...
if you aren't draggin meat you are missing shots at big fish. period. |

| not as effective? what? are you joking?
imo it can be a lake specific bite...I fish some lakes in the fall 2 guys can cast everything in the tackle box and not get one sniff on artificial, not one follow but the suckers get eaten all day long... i've had other days on lakes plastics etc usually work and they still want live suckers...quite a few days we'd have headed home fishless without dragging meat...how can that not be as effective...? my 2 cents |

| Brad, casting is the key word. Casting suckers is probably not as effective. Dragging them? Absorutely! |

|

| No crow being served. Just figured you missed it, is all.
But, I remember watching that movie of, I think, Dick Sleight(sp) rigging and casting suckers in the snow, and getting a pretty big fish to eat. Can't remember the name of the movie, but I think I first saw it at one of my first MI meetings back in 92 or so. I was fascinated by it, but never tried it. Looked like a lot of work, actually. |
