| IMHO there is no need to upgrade the new drags on Abu's, the handles are perfectly fine although I prefer a single power handle but many Abu's can be had from the factory with them already on them. Different gears are only if you want to change the ratio as the gears don't wear out. OK the 6.3's have a few problems.
As far as bearings, etc. I don't see the need to do any upgrading. These are being used for musky throwing 1/2 oz or bigger, ussually A LOT bigger baits! I can laready cast to the spool on a RCN60 with 80lb. Stealth on it. How much farther do you need to cast?

Location: where the fish are... | the reason i was looking into this stuff is for next offseason i will be rebuilding all my reels, i plan on making up for living on the east coast all summer w/a whole lot of fishing next season. and from what ive been told the upgrade bearings make a nice difference. But i was just looking for now. |

Location: Milwaukee, WI | Tom,
I made the upgrade to a ball-bearing level wind bar on one of my 6500's. Got the parts from Hatterasoutfitters.com.
It is a worthwile upgrade because it made the reel smoother and more consistent in casting. More like a Calcutta 400.
I also made the upgrade to smoothie drag washers. But, I don't get enough big fish action to say for sure if that upgrade is worthwhile Need a trip to MilleLacs to eval that one.
One problem, Hatteras took forever (4-6 weeks) processing & shipping my order.

Location: Madtown, WI | I also upgraded to the smoothie drag washers and honestly have never noticed a difference, I actually forgot I have them on a couple of my reels until now! However if you want to upgrade I strongly recommend purchasing directly from smoooothies. Its much much cheaper and I got mine in a week. |
