Location: Indiana | Duh...I've seen this boat in person actually. It's in good shape inside and out. When I saw the price I thought it looked like a pretty good deal...
Of course I didn't have room for it in my garage 
I say you should get it. What's a little debt when you're your age. Just rack up the student loans, defer them until you're 30, be sure to make your truck and boat payments, and you're SET!!!
And....if you're in Indiana and need a netman, I'll be happy to buy you a burger if you're starving. |

*then it might be time to either make more money, or have lower expectations for what boat you NEED to be running. Look around, lots of great (ish) boats for a lot less than $10K. They are just older, and need a little more TLC. I was far older than you, running much crappier boats than that....dont boo hoo too much. |

Location: Columbus, Georgia | I have a 2005 Fish Hawk 1750 with the same vinyl package. It's really an advantage over the carpeted boats. I was recently in a beautiful Ranger that was less than 1 year old ... and that gray carpeting was already getting ratty and frayed. You simply scrub the vinyl down and she's as good as new. Year, after year, after year.
Crestliner is a good rough water boat as well. 10K sounds OK if the boat engine has low hours. You might find another boat that appears to have more bells and whistles, but if the boat pictured is clean I suggest that you go for it.

i believe my trolling motor was a 12 lb.thrust pfluger. wasnt much but it kept me from sitting on shore...

| this would be my third boat. my first was a like a 9ft plastic bass tender. we put some nice fish in that boat for sure. not that it matters. i wasn't whining...but 10,000 is a lot of money. even for you andrew don't you get that tuffy discount anyways? hook a brother up  |

*boats are expensive. rods are expensive. reels are expensive. pretty much everything is expensive. $10K for a boat really isnt. i dont have the pricing in front of me, but I would guess that a 2 or 3 year old 60hp merc is somewhere in the neighborhood of $5K, plus another $1K in trolling motor + locators, plus $500 to $1K in the trailer...and the balance is the boat itself. $10K sitting in your wallet is alot of money, but when you break down the price of a boat.....everything is expensive, but $10K for a boat.... versus other boats with that motor on them....not too expensive.

Or, I did a search on Boats.com, came up with a few listings. (parameters were crestliner, from 17.6 to 18', any location, under $10K). You'll note one boat is really old, there's this boat (the topic of the thread) and a bunch of boats MINUS motors.

| Halfpint is giving some of the worst financial advice I've ever seen. Buy a boat with cash, even if you can't afford much, and make "payments" into savings and retirement (Roth IRA) accounts. Get 4%+ interest on your savings and buy the boat after you've saved the cash.
Debt for trucks and boats isn't necessary and avoiding those payments will put you in an awesome financial situation. Also, most boat loans are very long term and even at a reasonable rate of interest (6-7%) you're paying a ton of interest over the course of the loan.
Easiest way to save money is to drive more affordable vehicles longer. Take or leave this advice, but you're at an important point in your life and the choices you make now will affect your financial position for the rest of your years. People can retire very comfortably (perhaps even early) on the most modest of incomes with proper planning and saving. |

You should buy this boat instead of the burger so Toad can fish with you without worrying about getting hooked.
Looks like a nice boat for the money.

| guest, i appreciate that advice. i decided to wait. i'm in a good finacial situation and if all goes well with the businesses i'm involved with i can afford whatever i want in the future....although i will choose to fish out of an average aluminum boat, because i like them more
so the boat is still for sale, in Indy...so someone please go buy it before i change my mind! |

Why is it that everyone with a big boat says, "Man, I'd love to have my little 14 footer back", and everone with a 14 footer says "Man, I can't wait till I have enough $$, or garage space, or a big enough truck to get a really HUUUUUGE boat...like a SIXTEEN footer" ?????
Don't get me wrong...I love my little boat, and it does manage to catch quite a few fish. But it sure would be nice if I could get across the lake a littler faster than if I can swim. |

| Reelwise I don't know why everyone has to jump down your back for asking if 10k is too much to spend on a boat. I sympathize with you. I don't care what your spending 10k on, 10k is a lot of money. For those of you that think 10k is pocket change maybe you should buy Reelwise and myself one of these Crestliners. Since you apparently have so much extra money to spend. Either that or you just like to make people feel like crap. Not every one in the world is financially capable of dropping 10k on a piece of entertainment.
