I was in Moline/Rock Island IL this weekend at the FLW Walleye League Championships, no fishing for Sue and I.

How did the Muskies treat you this weekend?

Water temps where you were fishing? Patterns setting up?

Weekend Cold front shut them down again!
Lori, Dad, and I were out on High falls. Lori had a "get the heck out of my living room" bump from her favorite bait (Topper stopper), A toothy critter shredded the heck out of my favorite suzy, and I had one musky blow my Weagle out of the water, like she had a temper tantrum, besides my mom saying, "I want your hat (shack attack lures hat). I put up with you for 40 years now, I think it's a fair trade" (#*^@, my favorite hat).

Northern MN Cass Lake area - As usual we had a cold front follow us north.

Windy with two foot waves on Thurs and Friday, dropping water temps between 60 and lower 50/s.

Smaller pike along the deeper weed lines.

Only two muskie on deep weed line that dropped fast into deep water on dogs.

Fising should get better now that we are home.....

A buddy and I fished the IMTT Sat on Pewaukee..The fish were moving for us all day long, but all we could manage during hours were a few shorties and 3 missed oppurtunites on legal fish..Stayed fishing after hours till 9 and had a chance to redeem ourselves, but instead we dug an even deeper hole. My buddy lost a nice (NICE!) fish over deep water on a jig,I lost an upper 30s on a sucker and than my buddy missed a 40 at the boat..

Sun I had a full day trip on Pewaukee and fishing wasnt as fast and furious, but we did boat 2 shorties in the morning casting. Fish were killing live bait all day, but by the time I got to the rod they had already dropped the sucker..Very frustrating..

Last trip of the year to Mille Lacs and all I can report is a couple of 42-43" follows, it was slow! The pike were chomping ok but that was about it.

Oh yeah and I was busy musky fishing this weekend so I didn't call this girl I recently met. I told her I'd talk to her when I got back but I've gathered I'm already in the dog house! So basically I have an upset woman on my hands and no fish to show for it. Some days a guy just can't win.

... at least I didn't meet her at the start of the musky season, got to look at the bright side I suppose

Was on Okauchee sat and the muskies were not to be seen. Northerns on the other hand went nuts and were everywhere. Caught 4 northers with only one being decent. Caught one trolling on Lower Okauchee on my way out to the main lake. The others were caught casting. Saw about 5 more little northerns. Water temp is down to about 65.

Consolidated Musky CLub Inc. Musky club outing held this past Saturday. 12 fishermen attended the event and people could fish any lke they chose, with 5 fish boated. There were 4 muskies in my partners boat that I fished out of, though we caught only three of the 4.... A walleye guy hooked a nice fish while we drifted a shoreline and after a long battle we offered the use of our musky net, to which he happily accepted and jumped into our boat to finish the fight for. Somehow he got the jump crazed 43.5"er close enough on his light tackle for me to net. Yup, hooked right in the ole' corner. That was the highlight. Ohh, my partner(Erik Hanson) won the outing and got a nice dusty trophy(hadn't been a fish caught in the event for a fw years).

Sounds like a tough weekend all around. Fished Little Sturgeon Bay on Saturday and Okauchee on Sunday. Saw lots of small fish, mostly pike I think. Little pike were going nuts on a Weagle on Sunday evening. Picked up this ~40" pike on Saturday on a mag dawg. Made my weekend.

Went down to Sheboygan to try shore fishing for salmon. Hiked to a place I usually fish from, took a few casts and hooked a nice king. He ran out a bunch of line, I wiped out trying to get around some boulders and the line hooked a rock. It was the only lure I brought with me (confident and stupid). I hiked out, went to a buddy's house in Oshkosh, watched football and drank beer for the next day and a half.

Great weekend.

Fished Brushy in central Iowa 6 landed 1 lost 1 missed only 1 over 40" though and of course the lost one. MI had there annual tourney over the weekend on my home lakes of the IGL's ( West & East Okoboji and Big Spirit) 32 fish boated all but 10 or so over 40" best was a 48" All this following the first hard frost of the season Friday night.

Fished Mille Lacs Saturday from noon until 9:00. One big pike, not even a follow, the wind was out of control. Fished spots in the west and east; weeds and rocks.

I did not think the fishing was too bad, saturday morning was cold and slow but once it started to warm up, so did the fishing. I hit the lakes with FRV and muskiefirst member muskystalker who makes some really cool looking bucktails. We ended saturday with 6 fish, lost 2 and 4 hits and seen a few more. Sunday we lost one seen two before the clouds came and we fished a clear lake and seen two more before I boated a chunky mid 30's fish.

We stayed up where Firstsixfeet was staying. Cool guy. I took him to one of the lakes I fish , he was literally 100ft from the ramp, about his 3rd cast on a lake he had never seen before and gets a 36"er. Was way cool. What's up with these kentucky guys and shorts? At 7am on sunday it was around 40 at best and Firstsixfeet is fishing in SHORTS!

Water temp was 57 where I was. Caught a 40, and a 36 while trolling a 10 inch Believer. First fish ever caught trolling, and 1st on a crankbait for me..and 40 is my PB. Didn't get a very good pic since I was alone. Oh well, it was a total fiasco..I ended up drifting into, and hitting a bouy while fighting the 40..ha!

Made up for the 'no fishing' thing this weekend tonight. I hit the water for an hour and a half, and popped a very nice fish on a Weagle. That's 12 trips in a row the Weagle or Rumbler has scored a fish over 40" for me or a boat partner, the topwater bite up here has been spectacular.

For some reason the DVR won't let me download the video, and I only was able to record part of the clip. Oh well, the muskie was a good one and was released in the water. Decided not to net her since I was alone, just let her go at boatside.

The video quality won't be real good, it's actually video of a video...

Fished quinte this past sunday, not a bad day for sightings, not good for hookups.Raised six between my partner and myself.Had one heavy fish eat the bull dawg way out at the end of a cast on touch down, set real hard into the fish, two head shakes and gone, never saw the fish but it felt real good and chewed my brand new carp unptown dawg real good.My partner lost a mid forty inch fish on a figure 8 at boat side, instantly on instantly off.He also landed a small 25 inch fish on a black gold barred suick.Very active gar pike this sunday regularly following to boatside. On the good side i raised quite possibly the biggest fish i have ever seen maybe will ever see and had her follow three big full 8s before dissappearing.Raised her on a Dcowgirl silver blades black tinsel, guys i mean this fish was huge,55 to 58 inch super thick shovel head with incredible girth i am thinking a fifty pound class fish, one giant big beautiful brown lake ontario giant,i cant stop thinking about her and my hands are shaking right now as i type this, awsome truly awsome.Raised one other fish about 52 to 54 inches another really awsome fish that bolted at boat side but no where near the build of that other fish not even close. So to summarize not a bad day and some truly awsome sightings,i cant stop thinking about that one fish, the best looking girl i have ever seen in my life,i am truly blesed to have seen her,a very moving moment of muskie fishing for me and my boat partner.

lambeau, I expect a 'disciplined' look from you; it's just right. From Pointer though...Sue is insisting I shave my head, what do you guys think? I hardly have any noggin cover left anyway. Would the Worrall noggin be acceptable sans comb-over? Would women cringe, children scream, and dogs howl at my approach?

Hey now, hey now....Sure, there might have been a little alcohol involved in this whole thought process, BUT it was not the leading cause of said hair cut. I felt that I needed a hair cut, which was true, but I knew that my bank account contained a mere 6.47 cents. So after some discussion amongst my peers we decided that my benefit to cost ratio pointed me in the direction of firing up the beard trimmers and doing a little maintanance.

I did not have time to fish this weekend as I worked all day Saturday and the Packers were on Sunday....however I did get out tonight with one of the newest memebers to MuskieFIRST 257ROBT (Dale). Dale has struggled a bit fishing muskies from shore around here so I told him I would be more than happy to take him out and try to get him on some fish. Well we got to the spot and I told him where he was going to stand and tossed one cast out to demonstrate what I had been doing lately to get fish.....and sure enough when it got to the 'hot spot' a fish came out of the water and inhailed my topraider. It was only a 34, but it was my first ever first cast fish. I stuck a 40 about 30 mins later. Dale didnt have any luck but we did see at least 14 fish, so we'll get him one in the coming weeks!

Shave it Steve, its the newest trend in musky fishing!

Pointer, you take the Angler's Legacy Pledge yet? If not, do it, you already are a model of how that program can work.

Mebbe a contest or something where when and if I lose I have the noggin shaved.

Indeed I have taken the Pledge. I plan on getting Dale out again next week Wednesday, this time he gets first cast at the spot! I am also taking a guy I work with out this Saturday. Was supposed to get him out last fall, but ended up having emergency triple bypass surgery....Hopefully I can get him a big one, and that his ticker holds up to the excitement!

I finalllly got out this past weekend after the first two weeks of school (college). I miss summer way too much!!!
Dragged my dad up north after we kept time/score at the local high school football game Friday night...he wasn't too thrilled to go, but knew how bad I wanted to get out! It was a chilly 30 degrees when we left Medford and we got to Eagle River around 2:30. Frost/ice covering the dock, we got out on the water around 3:00 a.m. Dad really wasn't thrilled then with freezing temps and not liking night-fishing already. I told him that it would pay off and he would just roll his eyes.
First sign of any light (a while before sunrise), he gets a hit on a Rumbler and loses it after about 2 seconds...same exact cast, I have one hit right below the boat and fight it for 3 or 4 seconds only to see a big boil and my bait coming to the top. Unreal we thought; two fish on the same cast, both lost! No more than 10 casts later, something smashes his Rumbler and ended up in the net: 41" - his second best musky ever. Take pictures and right away I tell him I have to get my bait in the water instantly! 5 casts later, my spinner gets smoked and all I see is a big head shaking back & forth on the surface. I tell dad it's a good one and to just be patient with the net-job. We finally got her in after some good runs and she measured out at a fat 48" - my second best musky as well. She was definitely feeding prior to being caught by how chunky she was. Went the next 5 hours with nothing and then had one mid-30's follow a Cowgirl lazily.
The window was short, but they were definitely active! I hope I'm able to get him to go up north again this weekend. Really want to get out on the water up there again soon!
Good luck everybody that gets out this week/weekend!!! Catch a pig...and release her.

Compared to the amount of hair I used to have, and the incredible closeness of a shave on me beard trimmers.....If I would have bic'd it, it wouldnt have looked much different.

Thanks guys; it's so nice to be able to get done with the week of school and get out to do some fishing...then a fish like that just tops it allll off!!! Really looking forward to meeting a bunch of you guys in Presque Isle this fall; just wish I knew if I had someone to go with (fishing buddy is in Idaho hunting).
Mike, I started to fish the rivers around here (Eau Claire & Chippewa) and all three times I've had musky action. Two misses on topwater and one that got off on a spinnerbait. River fishing sure can be fun, even though I'm used to the smaller, narrower rivers where you can cast all the way across it.
