Subject: New fiberglass boat protection

Just ordered a new Tuffy Esox Magnum. I fish all smaller lakes (usually less than 2,000 acres) so only have a 10hp kicker clamp-on for main motor. I will probably upgrade to a 60hp tiller when the kids are a bit older and I can take trips to the bigger waters.

Was curious what any of you have done if anything to protect finishes and carpet on a new fiberglass boat.

- Do you Scotchgard the carpet or protect with something similar?
- Do you put plates on the transom to keep the motor from marking up the paint?
- Has anyone put 3M Film on their boat to protect from rock chips or scratches from dock (similar to this product for cars http://www.invisiblemask.com/)?

Any suggestions on what to do to keep this boat in top condition for as long as possible would be appreciated.

Best protection for new fiberglass is a liberal waxing with a high quality carbnuba wax. At least two coats, then one every 6 months. In between, wipe her down with spray carnuba quick wax.

Another great product that someone from this board once turned me onto is called Bassboatsaver.com I Canuba hand waxed it first, and now after each or every other time out spray the rig down with the stuff and wipe clean. I cannot beleive the shine and protetive coating this stuff affords. Says it is quite uv protective too. Not the cheapest stuff in the world, but a gallon goeas a long way.

I second the bass boat saver, great stuff. After a days fishing just wipe down with BBS and it shines like new.
