| I'm looking into making my own jerk bait leaders and I am looking for pointers as far as the best material used and simple tricks that make things easier.

| I just made up about a dozen jerkbait leaders. I use American Fishing Wire single strand stainless wire with brown finish. I prefer 240# (.035), but have also used 124#(.024). I use a #6 solid ring ball bearing swivel for the 240# and a #5 on the 124#. For snaps I go with a #6 duo-lock. I just ordered some stay-loc snaps to try, but the duo locks have never failed me. I have a tacklemaker I use to make the twists (I forget the brand- it's in Rollie & Helen's catalog). I get different components from different places. Drop me an e-mail if you want to know where. | I use 208 lb with either a berkly ball bearing swivel or a 100 lb crane swivel which is much smaller but has never failed. I do not use snaps because they break. I connect spit rings on the lure to the leader...just as fast as a snap

| I make all my own leaders. I try to keep all the components at or near the same rating. I'm using the 105 pound single strand with #6 duolocks and a matching sized ball bearing swivel. I use these on everything.
This last winter I tied up a couple of lighter stranded leaders to try with twitchbaits and bucktails. Again I try to match the components. My stranded leaders run in the 65-70 pound range.

| The wire bender I use is the DuBros brand.

| For a Jerk Bait leader I use .029 dia. Single Strand Wire 8" long looped at both ends. On one end a #3 Crane swivel tied to the line, and the other loop attaches to a triple split ring that is on each bait. Easy to make your self and cheap!
