Will be spending a weekend up on Palmer/Tenderfoot in mid October. This will be first time there. It's a 5 hour drive each way for a couple short days of fishing so I'd sure like to be able to hit the waters up there with a game plan. Can you guys give me any specifics to get me started? Also, should I be targeting any other nearby lake(s)? One guy told me I'd be better off elsewhere but didn't specify. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Palmer is no known as a great fall lake.

I will not give you a specific lake because others helped me on condition of keeping them to myself, but there are a bunch of good fall lakes around there. Look for lakes with steep drops near the shore. Check out the map books and other publications. They often list good seasons on a lake.

Best advice, book a guide. That area I recommend Rob Manthai. check out St. Germain guides site. I will be out with him in that area for the 3rd year in a row in late Oct. He will put on the active pattern and most likely fish.

If your traveling from palmer to tenderfoot just be careful because of low water you should be able to see the boat killer boulder right as you enter the river.
Always do good on snake pattern suicks here in the fall. also a topraider is a good tool on tenderfoot when the water gets cold. Depending on temps. Stump hog in orange and black rocks too.

we fished Tenderfoot last year on a late October day and picked up 2 mid-30s on suckers along steep dropping banks on the north shore of the lake.
talk to Gander Mtn Guide (John Heibler) for advice, he's got a cabin on Palmer.

give the big bay way to the left SW corner of Palmer. Submerged weeds. Also if your going through to tenderfoot there is a nice bay way in the back oposite the channel where a big girl lives along with a couple of cane beds in the middle that shouldn't be overlooked!. you'll have a good time and a chance at some 40"+ fish. If your looking for more try trurtle, ballard, silver, LVD, Crab, or Twin...Just too much water for only a couple of days! Good Luck and let us know how you do!

That tiger is gorgeous and topped my personal best 42", congrats. You guys won a great trip for a great cause.

While I agree Palmer can be a tough one in fall, patients is a must. There's fish and plenty of them. 8 fish in a weekend proves that. I'm seeing, catching and hearing of some very nice mid-to upper 40's, with time and cpr, hopefully we'll see some 50's out of Palmer.

We're heading up tomorrow night. Palmer/Tenderfoot friday, maybe the Cisco Chain Saturday. Good luck to all heading up this weekend, if you're on Palmer/Tenderfoot and need a place to warm up or lake info, holler, my door is open to any 1ster.
