Has anyone tried the new Triumph rods from St. Croix?? Got a good deal on them at Thornes. Put a reel on one and it snapped while I was setting the drag!!! I haven't even sent in the warranty cards yet. It was a 7' Ex-heavy. I have been fishing with St.Croix rods since I started musky fishing and never had trouble with them untill this year. The girlfriend won a Premier 6'9" ex-heavy last November. Didn't use it last year. On about the 6th trip this spring, it snapped also. Am I the only one having troubles?? Sorry for the rant, just a little upset.

Ben

Honestly, I personally have not had a problem with my St. Croix's. How did they break? On a fish, casting or trying to pull a lure off a rock bar? I don't think I know of anyone that has actually just broke one without doing some kind of stupid thing to it.

Yeah, I did something stupid, I was setting the hook an a fish. A Premier 7 1/2" broke into pieces and the two pieces were sliding down the line. I should have never set that hook, because I didn't get the fish anyways.

Merckid,
I received the rod 2 days ago. I was standing in my basement. I had the leader in my left hand. Pulling on the line to set the drag, which was slipping, and it snapped in half!! This is the same way I have been setting drags for about 25 or so years. I have 5 other various St. Croix rods, some I have used for 10 years, and have never had a problem with them. If putting a reel on a rod and setting the drag is stupid, I guess I am guilty!! I was just wondering if anyone else was having any problems with the newer rods.

it's not something i've had happen myself, and you don't hear about St. Croix rods breaking very often, but like any product sometimes there's a bad one that slips through.

give St. Croix a call, describe what happened and ask them how they'd like to resolve the situation for you. they have a good reputation for standing behind their products.

lambeau,
Thanks, I have already e-mailed St.Croix. But they won't get it until Tuesday. Like i said before I was just wondering if anyone else was having any problems. I swear by their rods, and have never had a problem.
Thanks
Ben
