| I am new to night fishing and was curious what your guys experience is with head lamps, lights and spooking fish. White, red, flourecent, does it matter to the ski whether they are being "spotlighted" as you bring your bait in. I try to keep the head lamp off much as possible but was curious of your opinions. That said, it is much harder with the light off to master the baits approach to the boat and figure 8. Never sure exactly when the bait is at the right distance for the turn when I cant see it. Any suggestions experiences would be appreciated.

Location: West Chicago, IL | Use a leader with a small glow bead on it and keep the head lamp off. Keeping the head lamp off not only will keep from spooking fish but once your eyes get adjusted to the dark, you'll be able to see much better.

Location: Victoria,MN | I try to keep all the light down as much as possible, gps dimmed etc. using my "night vision ".Another thing I used to do is turn off the anchor light,but as this got me a ticket from the Hennepin County Water Patrol at 4:00 a.m. this will no longer be an option for me. Don't those guys ever sleep? |

Location: Waconia, MN | I keep my lamp off, and with anchor light I use black tap, to block off some of the light, while keeping some of it showing. I also use a #5 glow bead, I can heard the bead hit the rod tip and from there I know its time to fig 8. I hope this helps. |

Location: Contrarian Island | contact John at stealth leaders..he makes some night fishing fluoro leaders with a glow bead integrated into the leader...they work great...leave the headlamps off imo...

| Just leave your white tailight on at all times. Don't use that headlight deal until there is a need, ie fish in the boat, tangle, change baits, check map for the 9th time etc. |

Location: ohio | we usually drop a water resistant spot light in the water with a rat-l-trap tied to the light,then rock the boat back and forth to create a jigging motion. the light attracts the fish and the jigging motion and sound of the rat-l-trap creates a heck of a strike...j/k...
i usually fish with a friend at night we turn out head lamps off and if someone gets a fish, the other guy turns his head lamp on while the other is fighting the fish, we have to keep both front and rear running lights on here in ohio at night at all times..either when your moving,sitting, trolling or what ever..
