Headed up to Iron Mountain, MI for Labor Day. Plan on getting out on Kentuck for a day or two. Any suggestions on where to start?

Thanks,

fish the cribs back in the bay by the cabins. There's some kind of drop off and point out from the cribs in the main lake, too. m

fish the north end cribs just to the right of the access.
Use Topwaters, Bulldawgs, Double Cowgirls, say in 14-15 feet of water and throw towards the reeds. Also fish this spot more than one time through. Snake in and out going back and fourth, hit all angles east and west.

fish the open water basin just out from and to the left of the access. Mag Dawgs

fish the shallow water cove behind the rock bar, great weeds and big fish. Use crane baits, smaller bucktails. Try Brown or pink

Fish the southwest corner, deeper weeds. Stay in 16 feet, use dawgs, Double Cowgirls and again topwaters.

You can also try around the rocks first thing or at night. Double Cowgirls, Creepers and Pacemakers.

That should keep you busy for about 2-3 days. Fish these spots more than one time through. When you get done fishing a spot, turn the boat around and run it again and again. Hit all the angles.

Hey Matt.

Look muskieMD, (SJ brother) or Johnnysled. They fish that lake.

Both launches on the lake are good. The one at the campground is good but you will have to pay a small fee if I remember right. That one is on the east side of the lake and you can access this launch off of highway 70, look for the campground. I know there is a public one on the west side but I never made it to that one. Maybe someone else can fill you in on that one. But I know the one on the east side is good.

Thanks guys. I'll be there Sunday for sure. Look for a Silver Emag with 60 yammy 4stroke if you're out. Should I be expecting a bunch of boat traffic? Also, just spoke with SJonesi and his client released a 54.5 10 minutes ago.

YES! That is a very big YES to lots of traffic on the lake! That lake gets pretty heavily pounded day in and day out but still a lot of fish caught. I would suggest you get there at least 5-6am in the morning. I have seen the landing packed full on a weekend before 8am. But seeing it's a holiday weekend, I would really expect it to be busy! You might want to consider having a back up plan if it's that nuts out there. Just my thought.

Dude, listen to all the advice listed above...it really will pay off. Our best luck has been on more cloudy/windy days, but you will find them with the sun up too. As merckid suggested, get there early!!! Be the first boat out on the lake as you won't have to wait at all; and to be honest, that is without a doubt the time we've had our best luck out there. Try a jackpot or other WTD topwaters during the morning hours as well.
The lake will probably be super-packed....always is on the weekends, let alone this weekend. If I were you and you're in the area to fish for the whole day or 2, I would fish Kentuck in the early morning and then head out to Sevenmile or another lake if you know any.
Good luck and let us know how you do.

Funny you should mention Jonesi/client caught a 54.5" this morning. My friend and I were up there the past 3 and a half days and the fish were not cooperating the first 2.5 days; however, yesterday I had one right around 50 and one definitely over 50 follow along with 2 upper 40" skis all on the same break. A shame we had to leave last night...finally got a pattern going and the fish were becoming active...oh well; there's always next time.

Thanks again guys. I may try the night bite as well.

Medford, we also just got back from Mille Lacs. That fishery is incredible. Fished with Steve on on Saturday and Sunday. Caught 8 fish to 52" with 2 nice bonus pike. Mike Leombruni and I both got our first 50's. Steve has been on fire. 11 fish the net within the last week with 5 over 50 and 3 upper forties. Unreal.

Labs, we tried Lone Stone when we went up there earlier this year. Looked like a nice lake to fish...lots of good cabbage but we didn't see anything over 20" for muskies....about 5 really small guys. I'd really like to try it again sometime as there has to be some nice fish in. What's your favorite?

Got back from Da UP on Tuesday. Great area and nice weather. The skis were very active and we managed to land 4 fish on Saturday. Most of them came from weed edges and points. The high winds keep us off the larger lakes and we fished a couple smaller ones that you all suggested. Thanks for the info. Both of these fish came on bucktails in the 8 during the evening but we had good action on topraiders just no takers. We had nice moon phases and had windows open around 11am and 10pm.

Nice fish; glad to see you got some on the smaller waters. Who's the good-looking gal? Starting to miss summer more and more while I'm here at school...
