Anyone going to be able to take advantage of the mid-week full moon? I hope to sneak out for a couple hours this evening.

Yep, I'm headed out this evening at 5 PM. Cool front here with a NW wind, but one never knows!

moved a bunch of fish between 5 and 8 pm, but none in the net. Lost about a 45" boatside, had two non-hook-ups on fish that tried to eat spinner baits boatside and had two others blow-up (but miss) Jackpots. One of those was caught about 5 min later by a guy in another boat wo saw the blow-up and bee-lined right for the spot. The nerve of some guys is just unbelievable.

Full moon with a big ole front coming through and we stayed out literally till tree limbs were coming off the trees.. I had big plans to be on the cover of Muskiefirst but it just didn't come through.. I did manage a 36" with my favorite color pattern on a musky.. My hair was on end from 7:30 to 8:15!

Good luck.

Man did THIS work. Merckid and I hit a local lake for a couple hours, put two in the low 40's in the Frabill and moved 11 all within an hour either way of moonrise. The best action I've had locally since spring, and the best topwater hour I've spent in a very long time. The video is really cool, look for that soon; two BLASTS on topwater, several follows and near misses, and two in the net. I had a couple follows and one taker on a Weagle that are spectacular, and Merckid's Top Raider hit is pretty cool, too!

Was sure on track tonight. We had a strong cold front through the area, NW winds and bluebird skies. The muskies went totally bonkers at moonrise anyway.

Got out tonight with a client and the fish just went nuts. 8 muskies in 4.5 hours. One was just under 30 and the rest were up to 40-inches. This is first good cool down here in southern Wisconsin after all that hot water temps, then add in the full moon effect and you get great action. I can't wait to get back out tomarrow.................

Mike, that's interesting you say all but one fish were under 40, all 12 fish Sworrall and I saw tonight, were 40 or better. It was by far the most amazing last 2 hours before dark I have had on the water personally. Not to mention right before we got off the water, I had a wake about 4inches high that was coming towards my topraider that I didn't even see the fish. So, that tells you just how much water that fish was moving if it was following under the surface and I couldn't even see her. But the neatest part of the night was, I had a fish try and eat my TR at the boat on an 8, and while this fish smacked at my lure, Sworrall had another fish following in at the same time. It was truly one special night! But like wise, can't wait for tomorrow night....

Tried some fishing here aswell, but I had to put in the oars before moonrise, coz my new jacket/bibs was a tad to short, and its starting to get cold here after sundown. I had alot of pikes going on the Suzy Sucker, but didnt stick any of them... One of them was in the 40" class, boatside strike, but it managed to spit out the lure faster than I can say pike!

Looking forward to the video Steve

haha I concur barnstormer!
Hey Merckid....could have been a big one but I've seen 35"ers move a wake 4" high....I thought I had a huge one coming in too until it got to the boat and my partner and I couldn't believe a fish that size could move that much water....

I was out and fished for the 1.5 hours around sunset/moonrise tonite in madison....blanked...
stupid fish....didn't they know they were suppose to go nuts? they probably were on the other lake...

It got real cool here overnight also (central ONT). Three days coming up on the Moon River Basin area of Georgian Bay. Full moon our last trip Aug 1st and we released a slob, looking forward to it! Four days on the French River next week. Good luck to everyone who gets out.

I don't know about this fish Brad. This fish that I think was a big one, moved nothing like the other 11 fish we moved previous to this one last night. Every other fish we saw last night was nothing like this wake. This wake was nothing like the previous fish we saw and like I said, all the fish we saw last night were in the 40+ inch change. This wake was just DIFFERENT! But yes, doesn't mean it was her...

Believe me, that was a big fish Merckid moved. It created SEVERAL 4" wakes, not just one, and the fish was at least a foot under water if not more and a couple feet behind the bait. I have a short clip of what I believe to be that fish trying to eat a Top Raider a couple days before....it was a big girl. To support that, I've seen that before on the Goon and Pelican and caught the fish, and it wasn't a little one.

Merckid

The 40's moved the next night, we got a couple and a shaker. Down here is a whole different world from up your way. Just like your water is different from some of the MN waters.

Come on down and try this water sometime. It might just humble you like it does to most who fish it.

The bigger fish are just starting to move back in from suspending in deep water. High water temps cause us to leave them be until they come back in or the water cools into the 70's. Tought call to target them if your taking a chance on killing them or hurting them. Sometimes you just have to take what you can catch.

Steve, sounds like fun up there. I wish I was fishing in your neck of the woods.

I am just frustrated that most of the big fish around here go deep and with the high water temps we choose to leave them be when they are deep. They are just starting to show up shallower as the water cools into the mid 70's.

No bashing ment by that post, just pointing out what its like around here now. I was excited to read about his nite. I can't wait till the top water bite gets going in a few weeks down here. I will have to re read my post, I didn't mean to be negative at all, thats not me.

Go get that hog this weekend..............

Saw her tonight, but just a follow for about 10'. Got a 3' class fish on a Weagle (fun, got it on video!) and moved 4, all in that size range. The bigger fish were absent tonight except for that single hog for me, but Norm was guiding out there and had a couple good fish going.

Very long needle nose pliers, grab the hook on the inside of the bend while the fish is in the water, pop it out.
