Sounds like Jason Hamernick is off to a blazing start again for this year's Mille Lacs tournament. What makes it even more interesting is that he has a camera man in the boat recording all the caught fish.

Congrats to Jason and his partner on a great day one of the event. I have to admit, at times I have been guilty of wondering whether or not all the fish are caught by legal means at these events.

I think it was big of Jason to invite a camera man in his boat to document everything. Looks like he is the real deal folks!

Can he fend off the rest of Mille Lacs muskie rats on day two?

Hope to be at next year's event. Couldn't make it this year.

It's strange that anyone would wonder whether or not Hamernick is the real thing. He's got more experience on Mille Lacs than Thomas, Jonesi, Tauchen, etc. and has very likely put more big Mille Lacs fish in the boat than any other human being. Maybe he could do a little more in the way of self-promotion, but you gotta respect a guy who lets his work and reputation do the talking. He's a fish catching SOB. End of story!

hey guys, new to the site and wanted to comment on hamernick. I fished with jason for the first time about a month ago and it was the best fishing day of my life, my most fish and my biggest fish all in one day! I fish with guides about 12 - 15 days a year and quit-a-bit with friends too, and Jason is probley the best Iv'e fished with in MN by a long shot. He put us on big,big fish, had so much fun that I booked all of his open dates for the rest of the year!

I had Jason take me out last year in November and it was well worth the money! We had 1 inch of ice in the boat to boot! He is very down to earth and you woudl never know he boated well over 20 50 inchers last year on his own lines. I asked how many 50 inchers he boated and he did not even know for the year. Until then I had never even heard he boated that many. Very top notch to not blow his own horn and I don't think he has to. He ahs enough clients lined up for years to come as long as he wants to guide. He told me his best outing was 16 muskies in the boat. 15 after dark in August. The guy can fish and he will put you on fish too!

Good job Jason. Hope you win again this year!

I've had the privilege to share time on the water with Jason....the guy is a machine. To suggest that he'd employ the type of tactics that some slugs do out there is a huge injustice to the professional manner in which he goes about his business. He was the "real deal" long before the camera showed up in his boat this weekend.

Congratulations on another tournament win....it's certainly well deserved.

Anyone would be skeptical until you've seen what happens up there. Those fish were insane on Saturday. If you were a participant in the tourney, you may have heard Jason spill his guts on how he does it. If not... get in next year and watch him and Billy do it again.

1st: Hamer/Buechner
2nd: Britton/Burris (BIG FISH - 53")
3rd: Ronnestrand/Jensen

I'm sure complete results will follow shortly on the website.

My neck is killing me... but at least the boat's in one piece. There were some horror stories from day one... lots o' damage... motor mounts, trolling motors, graphs, bilge pumps, etc. I have the utmost respect for Pond... she teaches you how to drive your boat properly... sometimes the hard way.

Congrats to all who successfully navigated to some fish through the stormy seas.

See you on CASS!

If there was a camera in the boat, where/when do we see the footage?

Stay tuned to Musky Mayhem's website... Brad Hoppe was filming footage for the Showgirls. Carrie will probably let you know a time frame if you e-mail them.

Hamernick is the real deal for sure, but I don't think most people realize that the vast majority of his summer fishing is on Vermillion -- not Mille Lacs like everybody thinks.

I don't know about the vast majority of the summer. July maybe. Like several good guides he moves around to several lakes. Congrats Hammski. Remember loose lips sink ships.
