| I have been looking at a few new fiberglass boats recently and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to boat colors and effects on fishing. I have heard mixed comments on white vs. dark hulls. Thoughts or comments would be appreciated. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Never saw any actual definitive effect. I've run white, black, red, silver, and almost every other boat bottom and side panel color out there. I caught fish in all, and at the boat, too. |

As Steve said, they all catch fish...since the boat doesn't move, but you do, in a figure 8, clothing color DOES matter...LOL! |

Location: Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin | Light colored carpet is a good thing, in case you drop a hook or something, it makes it easier to find. Also easier to see at dusk. A little more work to keep clean, but worth it. GOod when you go to Canada & it is super hot like it was this summer, keeps the boat coller as it doesn't soak up as much sun. |

Location: Warroad, Mn | Believe it or not I sort of have the feeling that boat color does make a differance at least on the part of the LOTWs that I fish.
I've had many different boats of many different colors, and by far my best success in catching fish at the boat comes with a green colored boat. We are catching 19.6% of the fish in the boat on figure-8's with a green colored boat. Boats with white bottoms that % was less than 10. Not sure if there aren't many other factors involved, but that's what the numbers seem to come out to currently.
Sample size is over 1,000.

Great info...I've only owned boats with either a grey bottom, or black bottom. I've never actually kept track of percentages of fish caught from different colored boat bottoms. I can honestly say that on Eagle, we are catching 38.7% of our fish in a figure 8 (sample size is just over 350, not nearly your sample size)...but the difference between grey or black has not been established. Thanks for that info...simply amazing...1,000 plus muskies!!

| OK, I've had boats with Grey bottoms, a Pewter bottom, and a white bottom. The grey bottom boats did way better than the other two boats, IMO. Course they were Tuffy's, so that may have had something to do with it. I think the white bottomed boat did the poorest. Once I got the skunk out, the Pewter bottomed lund did OK. |

Location: Warroad, Mn | I suspect that a darker colored boat (green, grey, brown, blue, etc will be better than white), but don't have much experience with other colors than green verses white. This will probably vary some by lake and fish. I know I don't get many figure-8 fish when I'm south in the winter.
My figure-8 percentage would also be higher if I didn't have a bunch of trolling fish in the count (we don't get many figure-8 fish while trolling). I think I could sort that all out, and see what the casting percentages are, but I'll bet it's close to 25% or so.

Yes...I am guessing it could even be higher than 25%...muskies are muskies are muskies, no matter what the lake!! I agree that a darker color could be better, but I don't know one way or the other.
