Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | The Rhinelander musky league showed last night what can happen when favorable weather patterns combine with a moon phase. I believe we had 22 boats on the water for 4 hours last night. These 22 boats caught an amazing 13 legal muskies in those four hours. I know most one day tourneys run about 10 hours and a good success rate is around 10%, how about a whopping 59% in a four hour stretch.
There were some good ones caught besides. My partner, Andy, boated a 40.5, and didn't even come close to the top three. I apologize because I can't remember who boated what, but there were 7 fish over 40 including a 43, 45, 47, and a 48. The 45 and the 47 were boated by the same angler.
With water temps starting to come off their summer peak, I suspect this bite will continue for a while. I have seen many flurries of action like this in the late summer cool down. Mix in a moon phase and good weather and look out.

Location: Tomahawk, Wisconsin | Quite an interesting nite to say the least!!! Fish were moving on all lakes that we were fishing last nite, even the bass as I caught a good dozen or so from 1-4 pounds and had some pike with one going thirtysomething, then Troy caught his 43 with about 15 minutes to go, I net the fish and reach for my release tools and the phone starts to ring, Andy G. just caught one and needed to register it, five minutes previous I get a call from Bill D., he needs to register one too, that was a really busy 5 minutes!! I will look over the release sheets but between 8:30 and 8:45 fish were eating if you were near one it seems. I have been fishing this league for 9 years now, we have a few more anglers in the league than back then but..................13 fish is amazing!! We have one more week to go, still a good half dozen teams with a great shot at winning it all, congrats to all last nite, kudos to Pete Plomb a 45 and a 47 fishing by himself, congrats to the Fonz for his 48 which is the big fish so far this year, Gene Robinson you are musky God, Gene is a shoo in for top gun award seems like he boats a fish every week!! Musky Troy and I were motorless last nite but have trolling motor will travel, gotta love those 200 acre lakes and a light wind!!! All in all, WOW!! You are right on Norm, quite the evening, I will be back out there tonite!!

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I was just plain off my game last night. Sue was and is recovering from a morning hospital procedure and couldn't cast a lick, and my concentration was horrible. I did have two fish pop a Creature hard, and saw a 40"ish fish doing weird stuff off a weed point. I was out there and was fishing where the fish were caught, saw Dave headed at me one way, and another boat the other, and yielded by heading in. I left 5 minutes early, but Sue was hurting some and needed to get to an ice pack. I still feel like I let the team down, but what the hey.

Yep, and in addition to his success during league, Mean Gene the Musky Machine kicked all our butts in the Rollie & Helen's employee big fish pool. His 46" a couple weeks back took all the sheckles for first fish over 45. Nice going Geno! Good luck with the run for Top Gun.
