I use 7000's for 90 percent of my fishing, using 6500's in spring. BUT, it appears after reading reports from the guys using the Penn 975, the 975 is the marquee reel, especially for the big baits. About six months ago, I read on Tackle Tour that Shakespeare had bought out Penn Reels. At the time, the International line were the only Penn reels left that were still built in the States. Buy your 975 as soon as possible because if history is going to repeat itself, Shakespeare will move production of the Internationals overseas as well. Kdawg

Just because production is moved over seas does not mean that it will be a bad thing. Penn is/was the only company making reels in the USA other than some little manufactures so all the other reels out there are made over seas and I don't see a quality issue with them.

FYI Shakespear no longer "owns" Penn. K2 which owned Penn and Shakespeare was recently sold to a company called Jarden.
