We went up on Sunday and fished about 8 hours and put in another 4 on Monday morning - had a few follows that looked to be upper 40's. I had also boated a 35 1/2" thick northern, my largest to date - but other than that - pretty slow as we had also heard from others. We were not quite sure what to expect out of our Guided trip with Gregg Thomas Monday night - but as always - were looking forward to more time on the water - muskies or not. We fished the first couple hours and saw a few, had a couple follows and Gregg boated a 48"er... my finace Don snagged about a 44"er which was kinda a crazy fight. It got off before we boated it though. Then the wind picked up and my luck changed. I was throwing topwater and finally got a hit - boated my first of the year - a nice 38 1/2". It was followed up by two really nice follows - one looking to be 50+ or so. Then I had another one hit and after a good fight - was measured in the boat at 41 1/2". Things slowed down a bit as the wind died down again and it got dark.

By this time, we had seen more fish than I had on any given day, let alone boated two myself. We moved onto a new location that Gregg a buddy had fished two nights before. Gregg had told us how his buddy had a strike at the boat and somehow (as a few from the board can relate to) rod and all ended up overboard, fish and rod gone. We joked about it and Gregg told us it would be great if one of us could catch it... well... 4 casts later... I hooked the line ... and the muskie was still attached... all 47"'s of it. We netted it and relieved the poor thing of the bait and rod... we had to work it a bit - but we think it made it. It was dark so we couldn't keep track once it went under. We had a good laugh and then some, but that was par to the night. My sides hurt from laughing so much throughout the evening - if you don't like a good time - don't book with Gregg

A bit later, Don hooked up with a 40 1/2 " muskie as well. We moved one more time and though fatigue was starting to set in - spirits were high to say the least. It was getting late and the clock ticking down... but I finally had one more decent fish following my bait in - about 5' from the boat - total explosion as it hit it and went straight up in the air, head shaking, etc.. you know the drill. Got that one in the net pretty quickly and measure 45", my personal best to date. I had one more nice follow to boot after that. What a night to say the least. 3 muskies in the boat for me (not counting the rod, reel and 47") and 3 really nice follows. Don and Gregg each adding another - not to mention numerous follow for them as well.

While I have loved fishing my entire life - it was only last year that my guy introduced me to whole other dimension of Muskies... and I can't thank him enough! Monday night just made my addiction hit a whole new level.

So if you are considering booking with Gregg Thomas, please wait until we are in the book for next year! Can't wait to hit it again..

I have pics of all but the 45" - and that one I'm hoping to have shortly. Our camera decided to not like night fishing very much.

Kim/Don sounds like you guys had a great time with Gregg congrats on your personal best Kim. Awesome story thanks for sharing with everyone. I was wondering what kind of rod real combo that you got for a bonus?

Thanks! I believe it was a St. Croix combo - but it went back to the original owner. He got a call while we were in the boat and could not believe we had actually retrieved it. I think that Gregg had to tell him like 5 times before he really believed it. I was glad he got it back - and just added a great story for the trip - and probably a few to come.

Great report. Gregg is a great guy and congrats on those fish and the impending "musky marriage"! When you say the "I Do's" you should have the wedding party each have a musky rod and do a figure eight!

I just saw that Kim posted this. As follow-up, the lost rod and reel was right at the boat at dark, so there was very little line out of the reel. Also, the "buddy" who let the rod fly out of his hands is a "professional guide" but I won't name names - but Gregg said he had caught a lot of grief about it. If I remember correctly, we were fishing in 11' of water with weeds so the odds had to be pretty slim that one of us would hook it. lf she would not have caught the fish, it would probably have not made it another day. When we released it the first time, the fish was swimming on its one side and flipped belly up. Gregg worked it again and it was very fortunate to have successfully released the second time.

As she mentioned Gregg is a class act, very very professional and educational in the boat; and we had a blast. It woudn't have mattered if we caught fish with him or not, it was that much fun. Gregg is almost 11 years younger than me, but is so knowledgeable on muskies he is doing exactly what he should be doing, guiding for muskies.

Great report Kimmer, sounds like a trip of a lifetime. Glad you could also hopefully save the fish that swiped the rod and all. I'm going to try getting out with Gregg this fall.

Congratulations. Fishing with Gregg is always a "BLAST". He also works [hard] trying to put his clients on fish. Everytime we fish together it's constant laughter. I bet I know the knucklehead that lost that combo, LMAO. Pat

Looks like some good times were had.

On top of being an extremely knowledgeable fisherman, Gregg is hilarious and will keep you laughing all day. A great guy to fish with

What a great story ! Not too often you get a second shot at a previously hooked fish and get the rod too! Great job !

I just had to cancel 3 days with Greg around the full moon in Sept. 26, 27,28. Some one should jump on this. I am really disappointed I can't make it. Call him at 606-776-6729. And if you catch anything over 50", I don't want to know about it.
