I have a Lowrance combo unit (gps/fishfinder) on my boat. I was wondering, if i bought another lowrance fishfinder, could i plug it into my combo unit and view full screen gps on original unit, and full screen depth finder on the other one.
Hope i havent confused anyone, but i am trying to get full screens instead of split screens like i have on my combo.
Thanks, pikie

pikie, you would have to get another gps/fishfinder unit of the same model in order to get the full screen version on to the seperate screens. On the back of the unit are 2/3 plugs. Plug the transducer cable into the back of one unit, while pluging the gps cable into the other unit.

Or you could network the two units togrther. This way you would only need one GPS puck. If you buy another unit you could either buy a combo, a graph, or a GPS chart plotter and use your combo for whichever one you need.

If you present units have LowranceNet, or NMEA 2000, you can network them as mentioned. You can then share the GPS receiver between the units. You must choose the unit you want for the sonar. If you need more info, let me know. I've done dozen's of these.

I would just buy another fish finder and run that as your locator, and use the combo unit as the GPS unit. Make sure you new unit has the same color conectors so the chords can be interchangable. If the graph went down you could plug the transducer back into the combo unit and split the screen and have GPS/Graph if the Graph went down. You could also get a second combo unit w/o a module and run it as a Graph, if one went down you would have a back up GPS or Graph unit.

Good luck

I agree with Troy Z.,,,that's what I did at my console...2 combo units running side by side...one on gps, one on sonar

Troyz,
If i bought another lowrance fishfinder, could i just plug it into my other(gps) unit and not have to epoxy another transducer in my boat. That would be the easiest way. My GPS combo is probably 4 or 5 years old.

I think my unit is a lms 240.

As long as the new unit has the same transducer plug in back(the old one probably had the blue connector??), you only have to run another power cord, and you are set.

Pikie, like reefer stated as long as they are the same connector no need for another transducer to be mounted. Even if they have different connector and it plugs in the transducer could work but the temp might not read out. I bought a new 102 and left my old transducer from my 320 monocrome, the 102 worked fine just didn't get water temp. I left the old transducer on as a backup.
Give thorne brothers a call and they should be able to help you out if the transducers are fully interchangable.
