| I'm looking to upgrade my electronics and thinking about getting a lcx 37c or 38c. Has any one used either one? What plug in maps do you use. Is the hd worth the extra money and do you still need plug ins with the hard drive? Thanks, Don. | |

Location: north central wisconsin | I'd suggest testing a 37 or 38 out before buying. They only offer that unit with the 1.7 software, which is the version giving people trouble right now in weeds or water under 5-6'. I have heard that a new update is on the way, and it would be worthwhile to check with Lowrance before buying. The 1.7 software has made the transducer more sensitive, which has been great in deeper water, however, which alot of Walleye guys and open water Musky fishermen like. If you do alot of that, and do not spend a whole lot of time in weeds or shallow water, this might be for you. If a bigger Lowrance color unit is your choice, check on one of the older lcx 25 or 26's or 110 or 111's which have software that can be modified. I am no expert on this subject though, and have not seen a 37 or 38 yet, but do know that the 1.7 software is as 'old' as you can update them with.
As far as the hard drive models, if they haven't improved the maps much, I'd buy one without and plug a card in. I have an lcx 111 hard drive unit now, and never use the base maps. That said, I'd think that Lowrance would have/will be updating the maps on the hard drive units so one will not have to buy cards along with them. | |

| I find my 26c HD handy. I think it was worth the extra 100 bucks. I also bought a nav chip and I now have many differnt map choices. Dont forget the HD model will have road maps of all of North America. I put my unit in my truck last year for a western mule deer hunt. All the forest service roads and trails are on there. It will also have Nautic path which is all the great lakes and also Fishing hotspots. Each map has some good points and not so good points. Ken

| I will side with Jason on this one! All the New units come with the 1.7 software in them. You CANNOT go back to a earlier software version on these....that is directly from the lowrance tech. I have a 27c and it is terrible in shallow water always losing signal, so I will have to wait for a new update, but my 110c with the 1.6 update is perfect. But they are aware of the shallow water problems and are working on a new update to fix this as we speak. So if I were you and you fish shallow weedlines, I would wait for the update fix.....and if you can't wait I suggest looking for an older model which you can put older udates in like a 110,111,25,26, etc. You should be able to find these used and still be cheaper than a new 37 or 38. | You can call lowrance for version 1.6 to correct the shallow water problem, And yes there is an update for 1.7 coming very soon. Ken. | |
