How many of you are NOT fishing because of High water temps?

Subject: How many of you are NOT fishing because of High water temps?

Hi Everyone,

Been a while since I have posted here. Been away from a computer with internet all summer.

I have been up in the leech lake area all summer and I cannot believe the water temps we have had. They are in the mid 80's on the surface right now and from what I have been able to surmise, the fish have all gone deep. I am hearing reports of fish being caught, but they are few and far between. Hot, no rain, some wind, but no major fronts to get the fish up and active on structure. I have not been fishing for them much at all...I'd hate to lose a nice fish because of a major change in temperature from the thermocline to the surface.

I have managed 1 fish this summer in the area...it's been THAT bad for me this year. Just not my year, I guess...

How about you? Fishing yet or holding off for cooler water?

Steve

actually in the outdoor news last week Rob kimm did an article about the network of very skilled anglers he knows in Minn and the amount of 'lousy'fishing reports about the entire season so your not alone,,,With the 80+ watertemps I have cut down my metro fishing by 80%.Unless things change in August and watertemps drop Im going to fish tiger lakes which is the lesser of two evilis, Tigers on average live 7 yrs and dont reproduce so if I do stress one its not has much of a loss has a purestrain

I would like to know how you are getting mid 80's for water temps. That doesn't even make sense. In the Bemidji area the water temps are 75-77 at their warmest.

I'm not fishing here in Illinois. Probably won't start up again until early September.

I've got a buddy up on Leech right now who said the temps were in the low 80s at the start of the week (last Friday or Saturday). He said a cold front moved through and the temps have dropped back into the mid 70s which is more on par with Kevin's assessment. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what area he's fishing. He's been moving some nice fish on Phantoms and WTD topwaters over weedbeds.

No muskie fishing for me due to the hot water. I might go wade a little near-by river for some smallies to get rid of my fishing jones !!

I fish minnesota and the highest water temps i've found has been 80. That was when we had 6 straight days of mid 90's weather. Otherwise it's hung around the 76-78 area. Good luck fishing.

This heat sucks. I canceled all my next weeks guide jobs and got most of them rebooked later in the month, the clients the week after already have been called and told about the possible problems. The surface temps are in the low 80's now and it's going to stay hot this whole next week.

Some people just look at surface temps when they make the call. You have to remember this hot water is now getting deeper. I have not seen Pewaukee water temps so warm. Last week they got into the 80's and with this next week hotter it's off the water for me.

Actuall I am in a matchfishing contest today with Baldy and I am not even going to put the boat in the water at all...................

If I guy can't take a break to protect the resource he is not helping it just hurting it.

Took the boat off the water on Pelican last night and had surface temps of 77. Temps got down to the low 50's last night so I would suspect that they probably dipped a bit more. I am still fishing, see no reason not too under these conditions.

Some of the northern Mn. lakes are at 74-77* surface water temps.

Tower drops down to the mid to low 50's at night thus cooling area lakes.

78 is the highest I have seen in northern wi. The odd thing is, the fish go nuts when hooked and when you release them, they take right off like the water temps are 40 degrees. I have yet to have a northern wi summer musky sit at the top and rest before taking off this year. Some of the lakes up north are as much as 3ft lower than they were for the opener. I hope they get some rain.
