Subject: props for 4-strokes

I have resntly purchesed a 2007 G3 V172 with a 115 Yamaha 4-stroke. From the factory it came with a 13 1/2 x 19 prop. I could only get 4400 rpm out of it (5500-6000 red line) with a top speed of 35 mph. I went to a prop repair person and he gave me a 13 1/2 x 17 pro tech prop. It ran 45 mph but ran out at 6000 rpm. I went back to him and switched to a 13 1/2 x 19 pro tech and ran 38 mph at 5400 rpm. I would like to run 42-43 mph at about 5600 rpm. Any thoughts?????

please ANY thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Are these aluminum props? If so, fid a dealer that has a demo prop program, and try several different stainless steel porps. I'd strat out with a 17 pitch pro Series from Yamaha. You can run Merc props with a hub adaptor kit. Better selection in Merc props, and you should be able to find the best prop for your combination.

These are ss props. The prop I found was a merc prop it runs 5800 rpm at 42 mph. Now I have a little trouble with cavitation. The motor is lowered all the way and I trim the motor all the way down when cornering and still get cavitation. Does anyone have any answers for this issue??? I go to the dealer and get the run around !!! Would it help to put the dolphin tail on the plainer fin???

Thanks again

What is the model prop you have? Is it a vented prop? Does that ventilation cause the cavitation when you slow down while turning?

There is the optimum prop out there for your boat/motor combination. If you dealer can't/won't help you, find a dealer that will.
