Location: Ames, Iowa | I have a very slight leak of lower unit lube coming from the lower screw used to fill. In other words everytime I look at the motor there is a drop of gear lube there.
I was thinking of using some thread tape on it to stop the leak. Any other ideas?
New screw? It is on a 1978 Evinrude 25 that is in great shape.

| Should be some sort of rubber washer/o-ring on screw. Try replacing. |

| I also have an evinrude -- it had a minor leak and I replaced the plastic o-rings on the screws and it solved the problem. Even if the o-rings look perfect, they can have tiny cracks, etc if they are old. Any marine shop should have them for about $2.50 a piece.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | O-rings should be replaced everytime the lower unit is drained and filled. Definately sounds like the o-rings. Only a couple of bucks to fix that problem. |
