| Might have been the worst 7 days of musky fishing I have had in years on Leech. Good thing I had a chance to fish bass with Dan Craven. That was the most fun I have had fishing since I fished October smallmouth. I am starting to see a pattern.
Hope you guys had better luck.

| fished vilas county, caught 6, all on plastics????? bulldawgs, storm kickin minnow, j-mac jigs, all worked, even bucktails over deep water worked, used my usual jerks and cranks on a lake well known to plow my starting line-up and no takers! switched to plastics and raised a good 30-40 fish over 4 days of fishing. weird thing is we didn't see any tankers. Biggest fish seen was maybe 42. They were definitely liking the open water thing though.
The thing I don't get is the bulldawg, I never have caught fish on them up until this past weekend, I finally figured out what works for me to just plain out see fish, but, they would come in hot, and then just turn off and head back to the deep, or just sit there, look at it, and saunter off.
Is there anything different you can do with a dawg to make them smack it boatside?

| deeeeeeeeeeeeep and fast figure 8's...get that rod down in the water almost to the reel and move the dawg very fast....sometimes that can be the key

| Fished the big pond, raised 4 fish sat. biggest around 40 even, raised 3 on sun. with two being very very close to 50. The one followed a double topraider and the other charged up to my magdawg at the boat, bumped it with his beak and swam off. Hooked and lost something and caught three pike. Slow fishing but still fun. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Got three on the Goon, nothing huge, got two big pike which makes me just as happy, Merv lost a giant on the Krook and missed two others. We saw them up close and personal, and one was the quality we are up here to catch; 50# class. That bait moves BIG fish.
New Tuffy 1890 GDC is running really well, LOTS of room and a good ride. Pictures tonight. It's 91 degrees here already.
Jim Kalkofen, Outdoor Writer and exec Director of the In Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail got a 37ish Muskie today...I got a 40.75 Pike.

Location: The desert | Caught a handfull of Brookies and Cutthroats. Nothing gigantic, but fun anyways. Did see about 100,000 fish throught the course of last week though. Only netted about 8000 of them though. Had a few 25+ inch browns in the mix though. |

Location: Ogden, Ut | Extended my weekend a bit and took the boys out for tigers this morning. We were only able to fish for about 3 hours; it got too hot for the kids (they are wearing life vests - not too breathable). Nik scored a 29 on a Super Shad Rap (thx for the re-paint Nightmare); which he promptly claimed as his lure. Ice cream for all on the way home. It's going over 100 F again today I'm afraid.

Location: Lino Lakes, MN | I had a whirlwind weekend out on the water. A big thanks to Tuffdaddy and Jonesi for getting me out on the water while I was back in the midwest for a few days. I flew in from CO to St. Paul and drove up to meet some friends about an hour north of Duluth. Fished a small lake for bass and pike on Tues and Wednesday and had a blast. Left the Duluth area around 1:30am on Thursday morning, drove straight through to Vilas and fished with Joel from 6am till 1pm. Boated 2 smaller fish and headed in to the Pea Patch to get a few hours of sleep. Hit the water again that night from 8pm till midnight with no fish to show for it. Ended the N. WI part of the trip fishing from 5:30am till around 11, raised a bunch of fish but couldn't put the hooks into anything. Had wedding festivities to attend to in Wausau on Fri evening and all day Saturday. Drove from Wausau back to St. Paul and hooked up with SJ for a few hours...I was asleep at the wheel and missed a few opportunities but had a blast just being out on the water shooting the bull. Flew back to CO this morning and desperately need to catch up on the sleep. Well worth all the driving and the sleepless nights to spend some time with good buddies. Can't wait for LOTW in late August. |

| Got out on the sewer with my son on saturday and trolled for a while , we were on the baitfish but no takers . Had fun " jumping " waves all day though !! Hit a few small local ponds on sunday and caught a few bass , well my son caught a few anyway !! It's not so bad handing the rod off to your son everytime there's a fish on , I think it's more fun watching him all day than fishing !! Had a blast !!! |

Location: Lake Tomahawk, WI | Made a trip up north with Mark Lijewski and Musky Innovation's Dennis Lappen to try and follow up our good luck from the previous summer's film shoot. Found fish on mid-lake rocks and got them to go on Cowgirls, walk-the-dog topwaters, and the hot bait was Lijewski's home-made bucktail which took the big fish of 51.5 for Spence. Here's some pics of a great 3 day film shoot. Was able to capture Dennis's 48" on film as it ate a Cowgirl at boatside probable 4 feet from the camera. I've a lot of editing to do, fishing with Mark and Dennis is like a non-stop comedy routine. 12 on film, 47, 47, 48, 51.5, rest between 40 and 45. Ton's of fun.
