Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | 30 fish caught, 75 teams......... 9-over 50" ......unreal......
my NEW friend Michael Winther nailed a FATTT PIGG today.... 54" and it wasn't even the big fish of the day!!!!!!!!
Every 3.3 fish caught was a 50" or better.......!!!!!!!! Crazy muskies indeed.....
Oh, my son nailed a puny 41" northern today instead of a muskie, .....What was he thinking????
This sport IS VERY humbling, for sure
Later, Jerome

| Any other details would be awesome. Headed up on Monday-Tuesday on our way back from LOTW. Thanks!
BTW, nine 50s out of 30 fish is ridiculous... I don't care whether it's WI, MN, or Canada! |

|
| here's the results...Paul Hartman does an amazing job organizing these tournies and making sure that the welfare of the fish comes first with his digital photo/immediate release format.
i know there are still spots open for the rest of the MMTT events this year.
fun, friendly tournies with absolutely incredible results!

Location: Bloomington, MN | Are some of these anglers just that good (i.e. Mr. Luke, Mr. Josh and basically all the top ten teams) or are the lakes they fish that good? I know everyone is waiting for this, but could a tournament in Wisconsin or anywhere else (except St. Clair w/ about 5X the amount of contestants) produce fish like this? I think the 11th place team would have won the Hodag Muskie Challenge almost every year in the 19 years it has taken place, if a team registered 3 nice fish like they did!

| I'll take a stab at this..1st off Clark I think you might be referring to the 4th place team that had 3 fish? as the 11th place team was one 52"er ?
check the pic again....
It's no secret some of the MN waters have more 50"ers per acre than many or just about all WI waters...would or could a group of great anglers catch the sizes of fish this tournament kicked out? probably not...maybe the only water I can think of in WI that could kick out 9 over 50" in a tourny might be GB/Fox river...is luck involved in catching big muskies??...you bet...but 9 over 50" is a bit more than luck..simply put it's a group of good anglers on a body of water with TONS of 50"ers, good baits over good spots with the weather cooperating....

| You are correct! I stand corrected. I just counted down on the chart w/o looking at the actual placings. What a lake and what a group of muskie fisherman! |

| Amazing number of big Muskie for any lake to produce in such a short period of time and yet Vermilion isn't even considered important enough to be designated. That too is amazing. |

| These are about the same results you'll see at the Lake Vermilion Muskie Challenge held every August out of Fortune bay casino. |

Location: Madison Wi. Chain | I got to net Lambeau's fish. It was an unbelievable fight after much hard work during the tournament. Had two other chances at fish from the same rock hump, just could not convert. The pictures will not due justice to the 40 pounder Mike caught. Finishing tenth in a field of elite Musky fisherman was quit an honor. BG |

Location: Minnetonka | Yes I concur... a great tournament. As if being up at MN's premier musky fishery wasn't enough... the Hartman crew put on a great show. KUDOS Paul, Kristi and all who devoted their time to helping out!
Huge congrats to Bob Benson and Dustin Carlson. Seems like these guys have put in the time up on Vermilion... a well deserved victory with 4 fish on the board, including one giant!
Big ups to CJ on his personal best 53"... and his new personal best 55" and hour later! Had to know Luke's boat was going to make it happen on day two... good stuff.
Oh... and Hoyer with the buzzer beater 45" fish on the figure 8, with 5 minutes to go in the tourney... absolute chaos.
See you at the Pond!!!

This is what 10th place looks like.
He's a mystery man, hiding his identity in the shadows.
I'd take tenth place and be REAL happy. Cromulent job, Lambeau.

| she ate a Red October tube.
we had action/follows from a couple other fish on tubes, including one that ate but didn't get hooks. both fish that hit a tube were very subtle - like a walleye taking a jig: just a tap as they sucked it in.
this fish crapped out crayfish shells all over my boat. i believe they're eating crayfish during the day when they have the opportunity - slow moving, easy to grab even for fish with otherwise neutral attitudes in the mid-day.

I wonder what the mortality rate was?
No need to wonder... try 0/30.
Also... no anglers were harmed in the making of this tournament... although it may seem that way when you see the rest of the photos. |

Nope... but I feel good thinking that way. It's hard see follows with tears in your eyes.
Why... do you know of one that was clubbed?

What possible difference does this make? If the event wasn't there, the cabins would have filled with OTHER muskie anglers anyway, that place is busy. The fish were treated right, and that's that. |
