i have had issues with both super topraiders and the regular topraiders....
the body is spinning and the blades are not throwing as much water as i would like.
and at a long distance, the bait stays below the surface till i give it a stiff twitch and keep my rod high.
so is there a tuning tip that may keep the body from spinning??
id greatly appreciate any insight!!
thanks

Really? Are they new baits? Shake the bait it should not rattle - if it does the weight has come loose and the body is prone to spin. (sell it to someone you don't like - LOL) That is the only issue I have ever had with topraiders - There should be little to no tuning needed.

If the keel weight is loose, you can fix it. You shouldn't hear any rattling.
I've repaired a couple.
Find the compartment where the belly weight should be anchored. A very bright light is quite helpful when doing this. Drill a hole above it, right through the top/middle of the lure. Add about a half of a thimble full of 2 ton epoxy and turn the lure a little bit side to side and then let it rest while sitting perfectly level....this is also when I'll add a couple of BB's if I want a little more front weight.....then I'll find something to epoxy over the hole that I drilled. I've used both thin metal or pieces of plastic to accomplish this. I even used a pencil eraser once when I was on a trip. You can also wait until the epoxy is almost set up, and you can squeeze it into the hole, almost like 2-ton putty.
Did anyone say anything about bending the blade forward a little? I didn't read 'em all.

I had the weight break inside of mine also that made the whole body spin. What i did was place a bell sinker or casting sinker ( not to heavy of a sinker cause it will make the nose go down to far) to the front hook splitring. This added weight to the front to compensate for the broken weight. Also adding the sinker to the front makes the bait have a little bit deeper, louder pop.

How much weight did you add Justin? I wonder if a few wraps of solder on the front hook would be enough? My TR brand new had the weight broke loose and it wouldn't affect it when I did a slower retrieve and calm but after that it spins like crazy. If the solder or weight doesn't seem to work for me then it will be time for some power tools!

Good post and great tips!

I really dont remember what size weight i put on there. I just tinkered around with some old sinkers laying around. I would start with 1/8oz and 1/4oz and keep going down one size smaller until the head of the topraider sits a little low in the water but not to low. You can tell once you get it right, the bait makes a distinct deeper pop.
