I saw a post on the classifieds requesting a 2000 or 2001 Hughes River glider. This isn't the first time; appears that the earlier years command more of a premium. My question is why? Is something different about them now (materials, availability, maker?), or is it all in our heads? Inquiring minds want to know.

Location: Oregon | The earlier models were weighted in such a way that it created an action that some anglers prefer. The builder simplified the weighting in newer versions. To my knowledge all other portions of the manufacturing remained the same.

Location: Oregon | Well there you go, maybe he also made somo of them thinner. I have refinished older models and some newer that were weighted entirely different but both were made out of the thicker wood stock. It doesn't surprise me that some folks would like the thinner versions because they would certainly be more lively and easier to throw.

Location: Apollo, PA | This question comes up quite a bit. Here is my take. The 00's have multi-weights along the belly, which cause them (atleast mine) to shake after the glide. This is of course, if you don't fish them too fast. They also suspend and sink slower almost neutral bouyant. The newer models sink alittle more head first, and have great fish catching action also.
They all catch fish.
I am not a lure maker, my friend the "Beav" could also elaborate on this question. Hey, some guys like HR Johnny prefer the newer ones...... So i guess yoiu might want to try both and decide for yourself.
PS I also feel that the multi weighting was more time consuming, thus Jim simplified it. Hey, maybe Wilson will get on sometime and explain. Nevertheless, he makes a great glider.
