| I am going to get a kicker motor for trolling and I was thinking either a 9.9 or a 6 hp Mercury 4 stroke. Will the 6 hp be enough motor for pushing my Tuffy esox Mag 4 miles an hour? Thanks,Paul | |

| Paul, I fish from a ranger620vs thats a big heavy boat, there is a 9,9four stroke on the back and there has not been a time when I needed more speed. Dont know the exact top end of my 9.9 but there has always been lots of room left. Have tried to troll at higher speeds on my pond, none higher than 5mph. This year will try faster. I think a 6 will do you fine. | |

| Doesn't the former owner come with the boat?[;)] I would think all you would have to do is throw him out the back when you want to troll, and yell "MUSH, Dave!"[]

| Paul:
I'd go with a 9.9 2 stroke because of the weight, over the 4 stroke, probably not too much differance in price if you are looking at used. If you are going too fast you can always twist the throttle towards slow. Then if the big motor fails for some reason you can still get home at a decent rate (been there, done that).
The 9.9 mercs are time proven, and a great motor. More power is always better.
