Hi Fred, my regular fishing partner is a lefty and went to Quantum Cabo's last season on two or three of his rods. We broke them in last spring on big lake trout with Dipseys, boards etc and they've got one full muskie season on them so far, plus this year to this point. I know he's happy with them. They're fast and real small. Even next to a 6500 they feet small and light. Compared to a 7000 they're like a toy. They seem solid though, so far so good. I know he picked up at least one off EBay for the price range you're looking at. I'm a righty so I don't use or 'feel' them much at all, but they've been in my boat for a while now and no problems. Quantum used to make a Predator Series I think that was along the same lines, low-profile+round hybrid that had some guts. Good luck Fred!

The Curado 300DSV is an awesome reel. I have one on my Grandt 7' Jerkbait rod and it is almost as light as my bass setups.

mmh,
I have a 1430 quantum classic mg and can't say enough about it. Very smooth, long casting, never feels 'overpowered' on the retreive, enough line capacity using 80# braid, very light on the 7'3" Fig Rig its mounted on, and very inexpensive. I got mine for $45 at Gander Mountain last summer; they are still clearanced around here, but its hard to find a right handled reel or one of the 30 sized one. I'm not sure if one of the 20 sized ones has the line capacity for muskies, but when I find a righty I'll be picking one up for pike fishing. By the way, I use mine for small cranks, small to medium topwaters (up to supertopraiders), and small to medium bucktails and spinnerbaits. The 5.1:1 ratio pulls in 24" per handle turn. Haven't tested the drag out yet (drat!!), but don't expect any issues.

I'd like to try the Curado 300 someday, but I'm happy with what I have.

once you use a curado 300...you'll never want to use a barrel type reel again

Unless you want to fish baits that have more than minimal drag.

I have a Curado and love it, but it just doesn't do the job for bigger baits. You will be much less fatigued at the end of a day tossing big baits if you use a reel that is made for it. The Curado is not
