Subject: toyota tacoma fishing rod length questions...

I am getting a fairly new truck and have always just used rod tubes and a soft tonneau cover...My next truck is a 2002 tacoma extended cab...it has hard tonneau cover so I will no longer be able to use my method with longer rods. I was curious if anyone has a similar truck and how long of rod will fit inthe cab passenger side angeled or in the bed in the same manner...thanks...will a 7'6" fit ? I am think of having my 8 footers shortend...thanks for any help...Ben

Ben,

I had a '96 extended cab Tacoma that had the same body style as the '02. I had a difficult time getting my 7' rods in the cab (had to bend them a bit just to get them in), and theres no way I could get them in the bed without a few inches sticking out (I did have a tool box in the bed, though). I really doubt you'll get a 7'6"er in the truck. Maybe build a rack over the tonneau?
Good luck, great truck.

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger which is a little bit narrower than a newer Tacoma. I can fit a seven sixer into it. It's diagnal and at an angel, but no bend in the rod. It's about as tight as it can be, but who doesn't like it tight, right?

Have you considered a 2-piece rod?  Check out the new post on the Tackle & Equipment forum and the archived discussions about them.
