| Recently I was told an uncle was taking his 15 year old nephew to Canada and was delayed over 2 hours.
I'm taking my 11 year old grandson and plan to get a letter of permission, along with his birth certificate. The only photo id he has is one from playing baseball.
I plan on listing where we are staying, dates, etc. (lots of info) in the letter of permission with both my daughter and son-in-law signatures, along with phone numbers, etc....as much information as I can think of.
I'll have my drivers license and birth certificate.
I'll be crossing at Internation Falls in the morning of Friday, August 3rd.
What should I expect and am I missing other requirements for border crossing? |

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Bob- If he lives in the State of Wisconsin, his parents can get him a State of WI ID card at the local/regional drivers license office. That's what my brother inlaw did for his 15 year old son that went to Canada with us this year. His Dad or Mom will need a certified copy of his birth certificate in order to get the ID. It looks like a Drivers License but is for identification purposes only..
It's also a good idea to take the birth certificate copy with you. Also get the letter from his parents noterized,. This can usually be done at their local bank, i.e., they sign the document in front of the notary and the notary signs it and stamps it.
Being over prepared is better than under prepared.
Have fun!

| The state id card sounds like a good thing for children to have. Thanks Al.
I was planning on using a notary, which most banks don't charge for the service.
About the only thing I keep forgetting to do is call my insurance agent to get a Canada Insurance card, that's free too.
Looks like Mike and I might be crossing paths on the way to and on Cedar. |

| Thanks to Al and others, my grandson now has a Missouri state id card. Not only that, but my daughter thought it was a good idea to get my granddaughter a state id card too. It costs only 11 dollars each. I laughed and said I may take my granddaughter (only nine) to Canada in a couple of years.
I feel good about both of them having a photo state id card. |
