I have a friend who doesn't do much musky fishing, mostly walleye and occasionally pike, who is headed for Cass Lake (annual family trip) in a week or two. He had asked me what might work on the Lake for muskies and other than general information I couldn't really help him out, I've never been up to Cass or Bemidji area.

Any advice for a novice on how to possibly see some follows, what types of areas to look for, what to use, etc. He's pretty green but I showed him what I know earlier this year on proper release so he should be good to land one. He'd like to catch a monster as would we all, but I would guess he's more interested into getting some action from fish above 30"es.

Thank you and feel free to P.M. if you prefer, he'll be going the last week of June I believe.

Allens bay, nickle and black bucktails should get him some follows... Lots of good structure to fish in Allens and usually some fish willing to follow... If he is willing to trailer his boat, Little Wolf Lake is an easy lake to fish, go to any shoreline and cast bucktails, its about 5 miles out of Cass Lake and much smaller than Cass..

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion
I was just up on Cass last week and started shallow, but the fish weren't there. Others were contacting some nice muskies right off of the weed edge in 8-10 ft. of water.

I'd start there and maybe hit some main lake reefs, and if no action go shallow.....

Also prayer works wonders...............
