Moved to the Boats and Motors Board!

The Crestliner is a great aluminum rig, and is a great design for the Muskie Angler. The Smoker is a good rig, at a good price, but not as Muskie friendly, in my opinion.[]

If you go aluminum, you'll get a lot more quality out of the Crestliner. Sylvan is made by Smoker Craft.

Of the boats youlisted go with the crestliner. Better layout and a wider bottom. A much more stable boat.

Ok for trailers. It depends on what you are doing and where you are launching. If I was fishing 2 people and had perfect launches I would get the bunk. If I fished alone and launched from some shallower areas I would get a roller.

I am a little biased, being an owner of a crestliner. I was in a smokercraft of equal length once and felt very cramped, it was quite narrow. The smoker was an older model, not sure how they are laid out now, not really a true comparison.

As far as trailers. I have a bunk and launch 80% of the time alone, I have had no problems, even on some questionable launches.

This may not help much, but my vote would be c-liner with a bunk.

thanks for input,my 1st choice is the crestliner,i have had some people tell me that it will produce a very wet ride, true or false??i have been in a sylvan,it was ok,seemed a bit deeper than crestliner,i guess you will get a wet ride in any boat with a good chop going, right??[:)]

I just bought the Crestliner 1850 Muskie Edition.
I have had some guys tell me that in rough water I will get wet. O.K. If I'm in rough water, then the wind is blowing, and I'm gonna get wet, no matter what boat I'm in.
Right?

I have a 97 dual console pro select, that I basically made into a musky boat. My partner calls it the Musky Barge. She does a good job, and I have had her out in six foot swells both on Lake of the Woods and Lake Michigan and she handle them pretty good. On drawback is the highsides in windy conditions and being a little high for figure eights. If I where just musky fishing, I would lean towards the Crestliner. Al[:praise:] This boat is Sylvan.

As a smokercraft owner I can tell you they offer the best bang for your buck, I can also tell you that mine is a dry ride. Now when we are trolling in 3 or 4 foot waves a bit of spray gets in but the windshield takes care of that. This boat can also go full speed (40mph) over those same weaves staying on top and keeping you dry without losing any rivets. I have been in a Ranger 620 and got soaked in much less waves.

I would recommend a bunk trailler with a bigger boat as they are easyer to drive on, the only use for a roller trailler is if your main launches have very little water. As for a motor try to max it out but if you can't afford it go with 75% power but make sure it's a 4 strokes.

BTW Mine is an Ultima 182. [:sun:]
