Guides, how much time is spent on the water each year? (Approx.) When your not out with clients are you on the water establishing a pattern?

Just Curious,

I always felt guity if I had three days off and I did not at least spend two days staying on patterns for clients. Often I used the off days to find new patterns and new spots instead of beating up my normal patterns.

Every year I ended up at 126 days on avg. fishing muskies. Out of a Wisconsin season that is on Avg. 212 days long. I was happy with that. I was never one to fish hard in November. I mostly fished 5 days out of a possible 30 in that month. I was always burnt out and hunting became important in November.

This year with No guiding I will be happy to do 100. I also have a baby do in August...ok....maybe 80.[]

I average 150 to 160 days per year on the water, last year was 144. I had to take some time off due to brused ribs (car accident) I was always taught a guide goes fishing on their day off (checking out different water and patterns)[:praise:]

I fish every day, guiding or not. Unless the weather is real lousy, then I still may get out in the evening if things die down. I keep my boat on a boat lift so it's easy to hit the water without much difficulty.

Good luck, Murph

My average day on the water is probably 12 hours, then multiply that by 150 days a year, I'm out 1,800 hours each season. That's including guide time.

When I have a day off, yes, I'm out pre-fishing, establishing patterns, checking out new water or if the weather is REALLY cruddy, working on the boat, maintaining equipment etc.

When you figure that I also have a job as a full time firefighter/emt, write articles, build custom rods and other "Little Projects", I don't sleep a whole lot from April to the end of November.

Everyday possible I spend on the water clients or not, do have few days where I'm not able to get out, due to a by-law my girlfriend implemented. This she says is punishable by not being able to buy any more baits.(and thats just plain crazy in my mind). But hey, you can't fish every day, can you?
