Location: Pewaukee, WI | After a good number of years I had and old friend find me on this board. Dave Sdano...also known as DJS.......the memories I have spending with his family could never be expressed on a chat board. However, the first muskie I ever saw as a child was at the hand of his father Richard Sdano and my father, and the memories continued since.
Richard (Uncle Dick) passed away this week and the fishing community lost an ambassador to the sport. A dentist by trade, and a maker of memories, he loved his sons, wife and his grandkids. By the sound of it, he instilled the qualities of a good sportsmen in his sons and grandson too
I was blessed when, after many years, Dave found me chatting on this site.
I just left my own dad's house and the stories of big fish, big storms and even a few snowmobiles into tree's flowed. Not to mention the tears.
If there is anything people can get from this post: Those you are close too, if only for a moment, keep in touch. Time is short, good fish are few, and the most important thing in life is family and close friends. Every cast, is because someone, influenced us to do it.
Many have come before us, and we are all better people because of them. Make the call you have put off, go fishing with the person you have meant too. "I wish I would have" comes way to quick.
Uncle Dick: The smoked muskie in 1977 still tasted like crap, but every one we released since still swims.........Thanks for the lessons, the memories, and the family you left behind........I forgive you for tossing me in the lake with my favorite flannel shirt on .................... last cast for you sir

Location: Rhinelander | Good post Jim. Life is way too short, we only get one trip around this race track, make it worth while.
Is this THE Dave Sdano who lived in Wentz Hall at UWL in 1993. The Dave Sdano who spent opening weekend of walleye season in 1993 in Rhinelander. Hey Dave, long time hearing your name man. Look me up, I have converted to a crazy musky nut too. Bart Tegen

Location: Minneapolis | Dave Sdano is a good friend. I had the pleasure of meeting his dad out on the water a year and a half ago. When I came up to their boat, Dick was in the process of netting a big muskie. Both of them were really excited, and it was very cool to see.
Dick had recently had a heart transplant. Prior to the transplant, Dick was pretty much stuck at home and too weak to get out to his cabin in Presque Isle, let alone make the trip to visit Dave in Minneapolis. The transplant allowed him to be out and about, and you could just tell by watching the two fish together that they truly appreciated the reprieve.
I'm very sorry to hear that Dick has now passed away. He was a good person and will be missed.
