| Is there there a gain other than space, speed, etc gained from going from a 17' to an 18'? Right now I have a 1982 Lund which is 14' and skinny. My local waters aren't much for musky fishing so for much of the use I'd be using it for multi-species fishing, i.e. panfish, bass, walleye. Local lakes aren't all that big either, but I want the flexibility to take it out on say Mille Lacs and/or Leech. What am I gaining from a 18' v. 17' on the bigger waters?
Right now I lean towards the 17' models as 95% of my fishing is done on smaller waters.
Thanks.

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | In multi-species boats, I don't think you would notice much difference. the extra foot will not give you much extra space in terms of deck layout, etc, but in the water, that extra foot can be nice in rougher conditions and bigger waves.
with the design of most boats today for multi-use, the layout is wider and more stable than the boats of years ago. You will find them nice. about the only other thing you might gain from an 18 footer over a 17 footer is the ability to put a larger engine on the back.
