Location: Iowa | I was just wondering (I know the rule of thumb is to downsize) how many people are planning on throwing larger baits like the double cowgirls and mag dawgs for the opening week this year?
Maybe some of you all ready do but I thought I might give it try.

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | For me, much of it depends on the current conditions. If we get a streak of hot weather, then the bigger stuff may come out. Usually, though, the fish are still fairly shallow and looking for easy meals, so I will be starting out with my normal 6 inch twich bait...

| This year in Iowa (in sub 60 degrees water) 1 fish came on a 7.5" grandma, and 1 came on a deep rad dog with an 8" trailer. Once the water reached 60-63 2 fish were caught on the same rad dog, and one came on a 9" legend outcast. Those are fairly standard sized baits but not really downsized. I've been throwing some 10" bucktails but nothing on those yet.
For the MN opener I'll probably be using the same sizes of baits, 8" T tubes, Mantas, Rad Dogs, and standard 7" bucktails. Who knows though once I get there. | |
