Location: Kronenwetter, WI | I'm about to respool for the year on a few of my reels and would be interested in knowing who likes what as far as line goes.
For casting purposes I used to run Tuff-Line, but found that it frayed and held too much water.
Since then I've moved to 80# Spiderwire Stealth the past two seasons and have liked it better. Respooled backwards last year, so this year its buy new again...
I'm about to pick up 300 yds more of the SWire, but thought I'd see what others are using and WHY..
I use the 80# spirderwire b/c it resists fraying and does not hold too much water. Knots are steel-strong and it doesn't dig in too badly on the spool.

| I like Stren Superbraid in 80lb or 100 forgot which, but changed all my musky reels over to it several years ago after not being happy with Power Pro. Easier knots, better casting, less fraying, no fading. I buy the bulk 1500 yd spools and use 17 or 20 mono for backing. I have 2 other friends who did the same and are also pleased with the Stren Superbraid. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I have only used PowerPro so far, so I don't have a lot of experience with different stuff. I will say I got more backlashes than I feel like I should have. This year I am going to try some other lines to compare. I have a spool of Stealth, sounds like good stuff. What I am really hoping to find is some Cortland Masterbraid Bronzeback. Do a search for it on here.. Sounds like really great stuff.

Location: The desert | I've got one spooled up with Tuff Line XP, one with Power pro, one with stren super braid and one with bronzeback. I like all of them except Power pro. IMO power pro backlashes too easily and is a pain in the butt to pick out. I also have that new dyed moss green power pro stuff and it just stains your hands, reel, cork. I wont buy another spool of Power Pro ever. I think Tuff line is the easiest stuff to pick backlashes out of, I love that line, but yes it does hold s fair amount of water. I havent used the others long enough to say either way, but so far they have been pretty nice. |

| I never used the Stren Superbraid for fishing but I have used it for hanging fixtures and signs in stores that I have worked for. The stuff is really strong and holds a knot real well. It will be on all my gear next time I respool. Currently I use Powerpro but it fades so fast. Even after only one day of fishing my Smoke line turned a dull grey. I lost a really big fish on brand new 100lb Tuff Line not to mention a 30$ bait. That night I took it all off and spooled up with PP but I agree with the pain in the A$$ to pick backlashes

Location: Brookfield | I am really surprised everyone is bashing power pro. I have about 20 rods total and all but 2 are spooled up with power pro(the others are 8# mono). I have tried tuff line aned liked it alot but it holds way to much water and freezes your hands in the fall. I do get some backlashes but only when I cast like a dumba$$, they do seem to pick out very easy. Just my 2 cents worth but I would go with the power pro, I dont think you will be disappointed.

| Power Pro and Stren Superbraid. Superbraid is exclusively used in freezing temps. PowerPro is used majority of time otherwise.
I think the amount of Power Pro bashing is relative to the number of people who have tried it. Majority of muskie fishermen have at one time probably used PowerPro. Much like what you hear on Abu reels. More people using it or have used it, more people are going to have gripes with it, so more people will complain about it, and that's why you hear more negatives. |

| I got some POWER PRO RED 65# line and it SUCKS !!!!! I use STEALTH, the PP is very loud casting, I would say my casts are 10 feet shorter!!!!! For all the PP fans out there please try STEALTH you will never go back to PP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS PP line is a lot thicker then STEALTH.  |

Location: Oregon | I have used almost exclusively PowerPro for the past 6-8 yrs and have had very good luck with it. Of course all braids have their negative side to them. A few yrs back Saltwater Magazine did a test on various braid and Tuffline XP didn't do very well....regular Tuffline did very well though.
I just bought some spiderwire to try on a new reel and notice that the individual strands like to seperate some when tightening up the palomar knot which I don't care for....seems to be a good line otherwise. I have read good things about Suffix new braid but haven't tried it yet. You would be happy with PowerPro.....it's a good line.

| PowerPro is noisy when reeling. It feels like somethings wrong with your reel, it drives me nuts. Maybe it doesn't do it on all types of rod guides, but it did on mine (3 different rods). I liked 100# Whiplash myself, but now use Tuf XP, and reg Tuf-line. I used the rest of my PP on my linecounters, because I don't have to listen to it being reeled constantly, and it is nice line for trolling...very strong, ties well, wears well. |

Location: Nebraska | Am I the only one left out there that uses Fireline? Soft, supple, great knots, quiet in the rod guides. I use 65lb for all of my muskie poles. I understand that it fades to white but never noticed it to be a big deal. Use it 1-2 years, flip it and another 1-2 years, but I don't fish as much as most of you. |

| I'm using Bronzeback, Spectron, Tuff Line XP, and Powerpro. As others have said the Powerpro seems to be more prone to difficult backlashes. That could be the reel, but I'm not about to go through the trouble of switching it just to find out. Both the TuffLine XP and the Powerpro appear to get that frayed look a little sooner than the Cortland products, but I've had no line failures with it. The color fades out of all of it eventually, but I don't think the muskies care what color your line is. |

Location: Black Creek, WI | I prefer Tuf Line..... BECAUSE it holds water. I thumb my spool on every cast and the water reduces the friction (longer casts) and it keeps my thumb from getting a burn blister. I also like that it has SOME stretch... rather than NO stretch like most of the newer braids.
And, like Ulbian, I'll spool up with Stren Superbraid in October and November when freezing eyelets become an issue. That stuff is virtually water proof and really minimizes the freeze-up issues. |

When I want a dyed, dripping mess on my clothes, hands, and boat ... I spool Power Pro.
It's hard to believe that all the guys that use that line cannot admit that the stuff drips dye for weeks after being spooled.
They defend it under any circumstance. Kinda defies the imagination. The dyes used in that line appear to effect both judgment and reason....
I have found no advantage to using it at all. There are MANY good braids out there. Who needs that dripping mess?
If you really want a tasty mess, try the new red Phantom (Powewr Pro) line. I spooled one reel about 6 weeks ago hoping that after two years away from it, the company might have made some changes with the way they colored their lines. Not so. I fish four days per week, and it's still dripping that red dye all over everything.
What's to defend?????

| I have tried them all in the last 15 yrs I think...for my money Stealth 80 lb is the best, doesn't hold water (just dip the rod tip in the water every 5-10 casts to keep most so you don't burn your perty little thumb off Jlong) and doesn't have that waxy feel of powerpro...2nd choice is original tufline 80 lb...good stuff too...

| I was at the local Gander Mountain looking for line yesterday. I took your info and comments with me. Poblem is that I could not find Cortland Bronzeback. Does anyone have anymore info on this line, than what has been posted? I currently am spooled up with Cortland's Musky Master. Doea anyone have thoughts on this particular line? |

Location: north central wisconsin | Tried em all, and prefer Tuff XP 80 for almost all applications. I hated Power pro for the fact that the coating would all wear off and get all into my reel parts. It was too noisy and caused too much friction too. Tuff XP has been the smoothest and most fairly priced I've found. I think this will be the 5th year running it exclusively. Cannot see switching, unless it is discontinued, which in my case typically, will be soon.

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | I have tried a lot of different brands, and keep going back to the Tuff Line XP. I use the 65# almost exclusively. Very smooth, and I really like how supple it is. A lot of other lines just aren’t as “limp”, and some lines are like fishing with wire. XP does hold some water, but who cares. I have fished the stuff in sub freezing temps, and have done fine.
I am trying some 80# Cortland Bronzeback right now, and have found it holds quite a bit of water also. I am finding it is very comparable to the Tuff Line.
