| I need some help from all of you experts. I will be going to inlaws cabin in nort wisconsin over memorial day weekend. We have always done well open water trolling over 30-40 ft of water during middle of june to begin of July... I have never tried it earlier. Does anyone have luck open water trolling this early? I am thinking with all this warm weather the water temp might be like middle to late June? Thoughts... Thanks, Joe | |

| The water temps in NW WI are anywhere 60-68 during the day depending on the lake system this puts us ahead about 2-3 weeks according to my logs from last year. The crappie spawn was 3 weeks earlier than last year and the skis were the same. Not only the warm weather but the rain and the lack there of have caused the water to warm super fast. I personally like a steady and slow warming trend going in to opener but who knows. I was out doing some mapping on Deer lake on 5/9 with the family and main lake temps were 65 in 30-40 ft of water we were marking clouds of bait fish on the depth cursor at around 16-20 ft. and there were large arches in and around the forage. It may be good, worth a try anyways. I will be casting in the mornings trolling all day . hope this helps | |

| That 40 foot level has been good on our Opener, end of June. You don't need to be down far, fish will hit when there's zero on the screen a lot (bait or otherwise), evenings have been best. Don't know what it is about 40 feet, seems like lots of good strucrure tops out around twenty, lots of the flats or table tops leading into spots or surrounding them are in the forties. It seems like a very common depth where I do most of my fishing, almost like that first flat or ledge separating the shoreline stuff from the 60's, 80's and 120's etc. Dynamite first/lact ice for lakers, whitefish, sometimes walleye. We normally troll right behind the boat with 10/14" Jakes, 10/13" Believers, Outkasts and stuff. Not uncommon to catch fish as close as 35/40 feet from the boat, and the water is very clear. Maybe why the evenings have been best. | |

| Thank you for the replies boys. I really appreciate it. I am definitely going to give it a try. I think with all this warm weather, it might just work. I was just worried they would not be out there yet. I hope they will...lol Joe | |
