| Wow. This lake is really coming on as a Muskie fishery! I saw no less than 20, good sized Muskie, with one pig in the mid 40"s. Not that they were all following, but in the gin clear water, you can just see them cruising. Weeds are coming up nicely, but the moss is out of control, so expect to clean your bait after every cast. The Smallies are on their beds, and I saw some real toads. Took an hour to get out of the crazy wind on the East shore, where I found Crappies and gills willing to take small jigs. I was sight fishing them like bonefish, and getting some real slabs, much to the dismay of the bait fisherman. While some nice Muskies followed hot to the boat, the bright skies and clear water made it tough. No 'Skies in the boat , but I did catch some mid 30"s Pike on various baits. I also saw what I thought was a carp, but turned out to be a ginormous Smallie cruising the shallows! Most Muskie were moving from the backs of the bays to the mouths, all except the big one were spotted in 4-8 feet, holding in weeds. The bigger one was suspended over 30', a cast lenght off the shelf where the Crappie were. | |

Location: Northern IL | Hey Boy,
Don't get me wrong I'd love to see a whole bunch more muskie here but no one should get crazy about Delavan for skies yet. My last 2 seasons has yield more than 700 pike and only 7 skies,,, a long way to go.

| You might have seen every fish in the lake from the history I have gotten. Have a friend that is a serious musky fisherman who has worked it off an on with actually, NO results for musky. He has caught one or maybe two while panfishing(the majority of his effort now), and never while northern fishing or walleye fishing. Glad to hear you saw all these fish. My suspicion is that this is a lake that would benefit tremendously from stocking two year old fish. I think the very healthy largemouth and northern pike populations in this lake really impact the stocked musky, but maybe this is the start of something new.
Hope you catch a bunch there this season. Good luck. | |
