| Now that the word is out about the monster muskies being caught by the cowgirl, plenty of cowgirl knock-offs are being used. Last summer I fished with an original musky mayem cowgirl many times and, although I didn't see or catch anything with it, I was very happy with the way the flash-a-bou danced and pulsated behind those 2 big #10 magnum blades. And, the special, stiffer cowgirl flash-a-bou didn't seem to tangle.
This week I fished 1 evening after work and used a knock-off cowgirl made with the "extra limp" flash-a-bou you see at most lure supply stores. This flash-a-bou did seem to pulsate well, too, but it ended up all balled up around the top treble hook. It still worked ok, but it was quite the rats-nest - took me 20 minutes to pick it out with a piece of wire once I got home.
Have you experienced this flash-a-bou tangling problem? Any ideas on what to do to prevent it? Would an Eagle-tail-sized single hook help to prevent some of the tangling?
Thanks,
D2Bucktail |

| Cut it. Not worth spending 20 minutes $%#^ing around. I figure when there's nothing left I'll just reskirt them all with marabou. |

Location: WI | I've had it happen with the Cowgirls too. Depending on how balled up it gets, I just leave it alone. The fish find the hooks one way or another. I've had to cut the hooks more on the middle hook than the back hook, so I feel confident that they are still getting the goods when the eat.

GOTONE has the winning answer. Do you think the fish know what's its suppose to look like? What is it suppose to look like anyways? Fish it and they will eat! |

| Look at how the hook lays along the shaft of the bait. Some tangling is inevitable, but it can be minimized. The treble hook shoud lay with the "V" along the shaft and the "single" hook(the one soldered to the main piece) should stick out. Hope this makes sense. There are a lot of little nuances with putting 'Tails together. Many years of experience and lots of chopped up baits. Steve |

Location: Minnetonka | Ever tried replacing the middle hook with a big single stinger, like on the Eagletails? |

Location: big cove tannery pa | Hammskie, i was gonna suggest the same thing. I use big single stinger hooks for my bucktails i make and seems not too tangle,i havent used flashabou yet,but silicone can be a tangled mess also. |

Location: Minnesota | Ya, you can't make those bucktails with the "Christams tree" flashabou. Needs to be the heavy material. My "Mepps" knock offs are being made with the Hedron material. I think the Cowgirl also uses the Hedron material. The stuff is hard to get though. You need an FET (Fed Excise Tax) number to get it from Hedron. I also have some coming out with two sets of bucktail for the tangle reason. I think muskies and pike hit these big bladed monsters 90% for the vibration/blades anyway. Not the skirts. JMO

| I wrap electrical tape around the top hook just like shrink tube, but cheaper. It seems to elimnate the ammount of flashaboo that gets caught up in the hook and starts that mess. Helps. |
