Location: Chicago western burbs | I just purchased the Minnkota Power V2 trolling motor and will receive it in a week or so. In the meantime I would like to prepare the boat. I have a lund alaskan so i need to install a plug. Are there any specific areas that would be best for the plug? Do I need to worry about installing it at a certain distance from where I believe the motor will mount?
As for wiring a 24 v system. What gauge wire are you guys running between batteries, and two and from your plug? Is 8 gauge heavy enough, or too heavy?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Distance wise I don't believe you have to worry. I would tell you to see if you can take a look at some boats and see where there mounted, that might give you some reference to where you should mount your motor. But if you can find an Alaskan with the plug already built in, that would be the best, then you can reference that to your boat.
As for wire gauge, Yes, 8 guage will do fine, and or 6 gauge will also do the job just fine.

| 6 is heavier than 8, and would be the recommended. I'd mount the receptacle as close to the TM as you can. | |
