Location: Green Bay, WI | Hi guys, I need some opinions. I am looking at either a new 1800 IFS Pro V, or an 1850 Tyee. Both would have an 150 Verado, and the price is virtually identical--the Tyee is actually about $300 less...
Here's the dilemma: I plan to use this boat mainly for family-oriented (read non-musky) fishing, though I will certainly musky fish a bunch. In addition, I live in Green Bay and plan to get out there trolling at some point. But I would say that most of my fishing time will be on water besides the bay. I have no plans to take this rig to Lake Michigan, although I wouldn't rule it out.
So which boat and why?
The Pro V weighs 90 pounds more (according to the catalog), and is 2 inches shorter, 2 inches narrower and has gunwales about 6 inches lower. Of course the Tyee is significantly deeper in the bow (48" vs. 40") and amidships (45" vs. 35.5"). Does the amount of boat above the waterline condemn the Tyee in terms of boat handling?
Opinions?

Location: Wisconsin | I would say the Tyee if you are going to be out on the big water most of the time. For me, I am going for the 1800 Pro-V due to me fishing 5O and some lakes in MN and northern WI that I don't think the Tyee would get in or fit down (as the second turn at 5O). Both are great boats. Plus, I had a 1775 Pro and out on Michigan in waves, it was sometimes a little difficult to crawl around the boat in rollers to get to the back of the boat, the low gunnies....good fishing! | |
